Tyson Fury to be co-promoted by Top Rank

Lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and promoter allegedly have signed a deal under which Fury will be co-promoted by Top Rank, they announced Monday.

Fury will have his future bouts co-promoted by Top Rank and Warren's Queensberry Promotions, with the deal calling for a minimum of two bouts per year in the United States, according to their agreement. That means Fury's bouts will appear on ESPN platforms. The network and Top Rank have a multiyear deal.

"I'm delighted that Frank and Queensberry Promotions have teamed up with Top Rank to promote my fights in America," Fury said. "With ESPN and (British broadcaster) BT Sport behind me, the biggest sports platforms in the world are now linked up with the best heavyweight in the world."

Top Rank and Warren already made an earlier deal for most of Warren's United Kingdom cards to stream on ESPN+ in the United States.

What the deal with Fury means for the prospect of his rematch with world titleholder Deontay Wilder is unclear.

"Top Rank is very excited to enter into the promotional arrangement along with Queensberry Promotions for the lineal heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury," Top Rank chairman Bob Arum said. "He is a generational heavyweight talent at the peak of his powers. We also look forward to our growing relationship with (Fury manager) MTK Global, which represents so many world-class fighters."

Said Warren: "This is a great move for Tyson Fury and a great move for Queensberry Promotions. By partnering with ESPN and Top Rank in America, we're giving our boxers, including Tyson, the opportunity to perform on the biggest and most powerful platforms on both sides of the Atlantic and become truly global stars."

The Wilder and Fury camps have been in negotiations for a rematch of their Dec. 1 draw at Staples Center in Los Angeles. A purse bid for the bout has been postponed twice because they were close to a deal.

"Things have gotten delayed a little, but as far as I know there are no issues. I would hope the fight is completed late this week or early next week," Shelly Finkel, Wilder's co-manager, told ESPN this past Tuesday.

Warrén already had his BT shows picked up by ESPN anyway..

But co-promotional deal. Obviously Top Rank have money that FW don’t have.

AJ - DAZN
Wilder - Showtime/FOX
Fury - ESPN

F’kin great!!

Also, don’t be alarmed. I believe Fury-Wilder is still on.

It also means that his dad won't be with him, and he doesn't have any plans to get back with his uncle.

Instinctively I feel that both of these things are positives, although I'm not quite sure why

I think Fury and FW have played this one very well and it will only help boost their argument in the negotiations with Wilder.

It does make me nervous though that we’re now less likely to see Fury against Wilder or Joshua because of it.

By the sound of things they want Fury back in the ring in May so they’ll need to get something sorted reasonably quickly. Guys like Whyte, Breazeale, Povetkin, Ortiz could all benefit from this if the Wilder/Fury/AJ fights don’t happen.

It wouldn’t surprise me if things go quiet for a few weeks and they then announce a duel PPV across Showtime and ESPN. Unfortunately that will never be an option with AJ/DAZN.

From a business sense fair play to all three of them, setting up deals that secure their and their kids futures.

However from a fans perspective with all three on different networks will we see them fight? I can only think of Lewis vs Holyfield or Tyson that was on different networks?

The HW pool isn’t that big so will it be a merrygoround of them fighting the same fighters whilst claiming to be the best?

Then when they loose/get over the hill we see them fight in an anticlimax.

I could be wrong. Hell I am a ton of times but I think the rematch with Wilder will be off now.

I know this is relevant to the bigger picture but tbh I couldn't care less. Is Tyson fighting Wilder and, if so, when?

The cynic in me thinks these decisions are made to actually move away from certain match ups.

I’m sure it’s not the case but it’s another obstacle put in place.

Shouldn’t effect the wilder fight because if they didn’t make a deal it’s bern ordered so will go to purse bids

Are the Yanks gonna keep getting existed about Heavyweight UDs? I know Fury has entertainment value outside the ring, but generally it’s a bore fest inside unless he hits the deck

unless top rank wants to take him a different direction, bob loves having control over everything. fury isnt forced to do a rematch and his trainer was open about not wanting it right away

i think fury will get someone b level at best next for an espn showcase. theyll all know wilders still a huge threat to ktfo him too, im not sure they really want wilder again until theyve gotten more out of fury and can take advantage of his resurged profile

as i keep saying, furys trainer, who he says hes so close to, was open about wanting to put off the rematch

the first wilder fight made up for lost time quickly, now that furys right back in the top 3 mix they can slow it again. as a 30 year old heavyweight he still could have a while left

For me there’s no excuse now for Fury to not take the fight. He’s got the backing now to take this to purse bids and he’s in a mandatory position. He will not get this position again.

The thing that worries me is fury saying if the big fights never take place he won’t lose sleep over it.

I have a bit of a feeling Fury knows because of his ability to lose focus and be uncommitted. He only has a limited number of fights left. I’ve got a feeling he’s taking really good money for a couple of knockovers to milk his current popularity and will try and get into an AJ mandatory position and cash out on that fight. He’s not a fighter I see fighting into his mid thirties.

to me its just like, bob arum seems exactly the type who would want to get some easy paydays out of fury on espn before putting him back in with such a ko threat

if ppl actually want the rematch that bad, it can still be there

maybe im misjudging, but i dont see how an immediate rematch isnt seriously in jepordary by this
