The prospect of Tyson Fury's rematch with Deontay Wilder still happening has been revived by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman insisting that they and Anthony Joshua have a moral duty to come to terms for super-fights to find the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
WBC is stepping in and saying ,"'These important fights which the public are demanding must take place. The priority for the WBC is boxing and the fans, over television rivalry.' Then he went so far as to call the promoters to account: 'It is their responsibility to make the necessary deals.
I'm very glad to hear this and the rest of the article also gives me hope!

Sulaiman goes on to say: 'Anyone who prevents these matches being made will have to live with the consequences of depriving the sport and the people.
'We are entering a different era in boxing with the major investment through ESPN and DAZN bringing a change in broadcasting platforms.
'Hopefully the internet will put an end to the way in which so many big fights have failed to happen in the past, to the detriment of boxing.

not sure why the wbcs word here would do much, they already ordered a mandatory rematch weeks ago with similar language, fury doesnt have to do it though if his team wants another way. davison didnt want it right away, lets see what arum wants too, he called for an interim fight
Re: (Today) WBC president calls for rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder (Today)
If Fury has an interim, so many things can happen. He can lose focus; he can lose (or Wilder can lose or look crappy in his own interim); he can look like poo. I'm really hoping this fight moves forward and the top three can sort things out. Such a great opportunity for HW division right now. Hope they don't blow it.jamamb wrote: ↑19 Feb 2019, 13:39 not sure why the wbcs word here would do much, they already ordered a mandatory rematch weeks ago with similar language, fury doesnt have to do it though if his team wants another way. davison didnt want it right away, lets see what arum wants too, he called for an interim fight

ya then again fury can get hyped up on espn fighting much less dangerous opposition. if the demand for a rematch is really so high it can still be there after some easier paydays. arum said he wanted an interim fight so hes defo been considering putting it off and furys trainer didnt want an immediate rematch either.

I certainly understand all that but any delay could become prolonged.jamamb wrote: ↑19 Feb 2019, 13:45 ya then again fury can get hyped up on espn fighting much less dangerous opposition. if the demand for a rematch is really so high it can still be there after some easier paydays. arum said he wanted an interim fight so hes defo been considering putting it off and furys trainer didnt want an immediate rematch either.

ya but for all the talk of how the rematch was a sure thing and how 'all eyes' are on it im not totally convinced all parties want it, at least right away. we have furys trainer saying he didnt and arum suggesting he doesnt.
with espn showcases fury can have a cushier route with a rematch still open. they took the risk of the big jump up vs wilder to make up for time away and it paid off, now that furys a major player again they might luxuriate in that for a bit before going back in with a ko merchant who almost knocked him out.

I don't disagree, but right now if the rematch happens in May and AJ fights in June, we're setup for a unification showdown for September. If that doesn't happen, scheduling bottlenecks will certainly arise and push such a bout well into 2020. We (the fans) were so close to having it, it would be a huge disappointment were it not occur this year.jamamb wrote: ↑19 Feb 2019, 13:55 ya but for all the talk of how the rematch was a sure thing and how 'all eyes' are on it im not totally convinced all parties want it, at least right away. we have furys trainer saying he didnt and arum suggesting he doesnt.

Maybe Arum isn't enthused yet about a rematch because the first only attracted 325,000 buys in America.
And rematches notoriously draw even fewer paying eyeballs.
Arum may want to showcase Fury in some other bouts to build interest and assure that the rematch is a lucrative endeavor.
Before the Wilder fight, Fury was pretty much an unknown product in the US.
It's Arum's job to build him up and turn Fury into someone high-profile here so that there's a modicum of interest in a second bout.

The WBC are desperate for their sanctioning fees They didn’t fulfil their own “duty” to satisfy public demand by adopting a similarly aggressive attitude towards their champion for failing to perform a mandatory defence of his title for several years. They want the money – they don’t care about the fans.
