Donald Caples

Post by Cent0089 »

This man was fighting at 130 lbs back in 80s. Then return in 2016 just to get KOd in 1st round, then return in 2017 at 50 years of age and almost +100lbs gain in less than 2 years. Sad part of boxing

How bizarre! Caples was a fringe contender in the super-featherweight ranks in the 1980s and good enough to top the aggressive and ambitious Andy Minsker in a 10-rounder in Vegas in 1986, when Minsker was 9-0. He also ended the unbeaten run of Darrell Savoy but lost quickly to big-hitting Kenny Baysmore for the USBA super-featherweight title, which summed up his whole career: he would string together a run of wins, then lose one, and it was all for nothing. A pro at 17, Caples was still only 21 when he scored arguably his biggest win over Rene Arrendondo on a unanimous 10-round decision in the States in April 1989 - just two fights after Arrendondo had lost his WBC light-welterweight title to Roger Mayweather. However, Caples never built on that victory.
