Dillon Carman vs Evgeny Romanov Feb 22

Post by oogiebe »

Ekaterinburg, Russia (Top Heavyweights) Options have opened up for Canada's Dillon Carman after his sensational defeat of Simon Kean last year. Carman will travel to Russia to face undefeated prospect Evgeny Romanov on Friday February 22nd at the Uralets Arena in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

What make me go hmmm, is that Carman is rated 23 by BoxRec, yet got obliterated (had a double KD!) by powerful prospect Mladen Miljas in 2 rounds, who is ranked 36.

Romanov (a prospect?) is 33 y/o and best win was probably his 2 round KO of Denis Bakhtov early last year. I'm disappointed that the rematch with Kean didn't happen. Canada is pushing out some interesting HW's of late. Carman isn't one of them.

He's sporadic and past the point that he'll be anything other than a gatekeeper, imho. Interesting as to the prospects and transplants that Canada is producing. Rivas; Teslenko; Makhmudov; Miljas; Carman is just keeping the seat warm and only in his position for having ko'd Simon Kean.

This is my neck of the woods....I've seen all these Canadian heavies a bunch live and none of em are head and shoulders above Carman...not at this point... anyone of em can beat anyone at any given time..yes Dillon Carman is longer in the tooth than some of these prospects but he knocked out the best guy up here many say..so to make him an afterthought at this point is wrong.

Miljas Ko'd him in two (Double KD was great!) before he beat Kean. I know he's tough, but...I'll defer to the locals.

That double KD was something else...I was there..great fight..
And all those frogs hyped up Kean as the next big thing until he was starched... although he gassed out still can't take anything away from Carmen

I used to have Carman on my watchlist years ago, and he seemed to just be a tweener. Then when he got stopped by Louis and I figured him for a gatekeeper in waiting, which is where I still think he'll do his duty. He has no place at 23 in the world. I bought into the Kean story too. He was a bit oafish, but I figured he'd get better with time. Carman put an end to that for me. Out of all the HW's coming out of Canada now, to me it's Makhmudov clearly the best potential. The more I watch him, the more I like him. What a right uppercut!

Don't get me wrong your opinion of Carman is accurate..I don't disagree... however I just don't think he'd be walked over by certain heavies especially in this country..not yet anyway...
And I take my hat off to you for following the Canadian heavyweight scene (or lack thereof)..there's probably only 4 or 5 of us worldwide.....

Thanks Duran. I love prospects, particularly HW's and worldwide there are a ton of them as compared to previous eras. Canada has been graced with several real good transplants that I'm into (as well as natives Kean and Carman), and Chuvalo was one of my all-time favs, so I know the potential that Canada brings! I'll take any compliment I can get! :TU:

The last good real CANADIAN in my opinion was Willie DeWitt....robbed of a gold medal had really good skills for a white heavy....thought he'd get to the top but packed it in to become a lawyer after running into Cooper..had a few wins after but probably a wise choice..

man carman got destroyed, i expected romanov to win but that was a real letdown in how easy and one sided it was, youd hope carman as a big puncher would made for some moment of drama or something. carman looks like he got his nose broke

As I stated in my opening post, Carman isn't one of the "interesting" HW's coming out of Canada. I'm surprised only that it was a one round squash match. I would have expected it to go much further. This loss to Romanov probably hurts former prospect Simon Kean more as he was hoping for a rematch with Carman to avenge his only loss. That rematch won't matter so much anymore with Carman's horrible performance.

carmans interesting in some respect, as a test for a certain level of prospect and certain guys on the canadian scene, he did ktfo kean and floored miljas and had him hurt. he can punch and can be a threat at a lower level, but he obviously is nowhere close to being any sort of contender

romanov looks well schooled but basic and too small

I can agree with that. Romanov could be interesting moving forward. An undersized HW with big man punch. And as you mentioned on previous post somewhere he's the guy that KO'd Wilder in the Amateurs. Carman would be a good gatekeeper, although he does have a pretty good punch, that may scare off some young prospects.

This was bound to end with the big Canadian on his arse. I'm really surprised he took the fight, he should be building up a fanbase in his home country.

Rating Results: Dillon Carman vs Evgeny Romanov Feb 22

Post by oogiebe »

Evgeny Romanov rises 39 spots to number 24 on BoxRec rankings, gaining 14 pts.
Carmen falls 28 spots to number 51, losing 13 points.

Not sure how far Romanov (only 6' tall) can go in today's HW division. I hope he takes another step up next time out. He certainly can punch and takes a good shot in return.

Pretty fast hands, good power, well skilled background. I like that he fights semi-crouched.

For those worried about his height, just remember its 2019 and the HW division sucks and is extremely top heavy. If you can make a fist without tucking your thumb you get a top ten org ranking these days. He'll be fine.
