Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
What do you think about ?
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Where did this come from?
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
I can't see this happening. LHW is a stretch for even the great Alvarez, regardless if he's spotted three rounds or not.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Somewhere on the internet, there was a recent posted video of Canelo working out and discussing Kovalev.
It was conducted in Spanish.
Canelo is interested but said it would be some time in the future, as he's not ready to make a jump to 175 at this time.
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
In two years’, time, assuming Krusher still holds one of the world light heavyweight world titles, then Canelo destroys a 37-year-old version of Sergey Kovalev.SenorPipino wrote: ↑23 Feb 2019, 21:30Somewhere on the internet, there was a recent posted video of Canelo working out and discussing Kovalev.

I don't think the current iteration of the Russian has the power or the boxing ability to beat the Mexican (assuming the sparring rumours of Krusher versus GGG are true).
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Canelo could make a fight of it with Kovalev I figure, but I can't see him beating him. At least not yet. In a few more years with a little more wear, and tear maybe, but I don't think he'd beat this Kovalev.
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
OMG! "the Russian." EO! Why did you change your name? You're still the same tired boorish poster!Eolaithe wrote: ↑23 Feb 2019, 21:36In two years’, time, assuming Krusher still holds one of the world light heavyweight world titles, then Canelo destroys a 37-year-old version of Sergey Kovalev.SenorPipino wrote: ↑23 Feb 2019, 21:30Somewhere on the internet, there was a recent posted video of Canelo working out and discussing Kovalev.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
In a few more years, most top level boxers from SMW on up will be able to beat Kovalev.
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
I don't really see Kovalev still being at the top in 2 more years to be honest. Maybe the rest of this year, but 2 more? I doubt it, and I'm a big fan of Kovalev, but I'm just keeping it real. I still think he's one of the very best in the division at the moment though.
I wondered if he'd ever try Cruiserweight, but it doesn't seem like something he should bother with right now, and frankly the Cruiserweight division is far more dangerous, and probably less profitable so there's really not much incentive for him to try that

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Canelo did say that his primary interest is becoming undisputed middleweight king, and hopes to accomplish it this year.
So a fight with Andrade (a fellow DAZNite) is most likely in the cards for September.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Well Sergey Kovalev is with ESPN and Canelo is with DAZN, which means this fight won't happen anyway. In addition to potential conflicts relating to broadcaster rights between Showtime/Fox and DAZN, Main Events also struggles severely to work with anyone affiliated to Al Haymon, since Kathy Duva has done her upmost to burn as bridges as humanly possible at the PBC.
I personally doubt that Canelo has ever mentioned Sergey Kovalev's name during any interviews. I just don’t think it ever happened.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
interesting, canelo is obviously better p4p but he hasnt faced a live body even at 168. it would be a big ass jump to a top lhw. remember how chavez (bigger then nelo) was iron chinned at 160 and vs canelo, but then was dropped and stopped and turned to jelly legs by fonfara
still i bet canelo would win, and he fights the best so dont put it past him to actually want this fight

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
..unrealistic in more ways than one and I don't think it's winnable either..
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
I'd actually like to see Canelo at the LHWs. Yeah, he's small for that, but not critically small. And he has skills to cover the size disadvantage. But Kovalev is too much for him in every sense.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
"We do not rule out the possibility (of fighting at 175 pounds)," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.
"At this moment we have other things in mind, but the possibility exists. It's a huge challenge, but it's the type of things that I like, I know (Sergey) Kovalev since I was 20 years old, and why not, we could make a fight between us and I like those challenges, there is the possibility of making that fight."
Being unified at middleweight is by far the first objective.
"That is what we intend to do this year, if everything is settled, if everything goes well in May, that is what we intend to do this year, to be champion of the four organizations," Canelo said.
"We are on that path, everything can change, first it is (Jacobs) and then September. We are very happy and focused on this fight on May 4, it is a complicated fight, but it is the fight we want and hopefully everything goes how we want."

That's basically the English translation of the Spanish video interview with Canelo that I saw.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Feb 2019, 06:37"We do not rule out the possibility (of fighting at 175 pounds)," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.

Thanks for posting it.
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Can’t see this happening because Canelo should focus on mdw and smdw and by the time he unified those kovalev will either have lost his title or have retired
Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
After reading Canelo's interview I thought it was a bizarre idea, but, right now I understand this fight would be very lucrative, wonderful chance for Kovalev to become very rich retired boxer.

Poor EO. Making claims without citing his sources and now his processor is probably malfunctioning since he doesn't think he can commit an error.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Feb 2019, 06:37"We do not rule out the possibility (of fighting at 175 pounds)," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Wondering is his frame is big enough for LHW. And he might still have power in SMW, but adding some weight and fighting bigger guys other then JCCjr is what I'm looking at mostly. Think that Kovalev is too big, but then again Canelo is a better boxer.
Might fight some money fight then move back. Lets just see how sincere he is about this. Or he is playing.

Canelo will wait until "his body is ready" (read "Kovalev grows old") before making that fight.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Time for another account. I love kovalev, but I don't think he could handle canelos body shots. I didn't see a dazzling performance against Alvarez, he looked incredibly vulnerable.punchoutsb wrote: ↑24 Feb 2019, 14:52Poor EO. I'm surprised you're not accusing Canelo of waiting for Joshua to grow old before he ponders fighting him.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑24 Feb 2019, 15:11 Canelo will wait until "his body is ready" (read "Kovalev grows old") before making that fight.
You should never question a smaller man's motives and demand he move up just because you feel he should. That's why there are weight divisions.
Canelo may or may not climb to 175. That's his decision alone based on whether he eventually feels that's a realistic weight to fight at.
In his next bout, Canelo is back to 160. A long stretch to jump to light heavy.
I don't see guys like Lomachenko willing to climb another weight division. Won't head to 140 for a Pacquiao match. He feels that it's too much for him. And that's okay. He's entitled to fight right now where he's comfortable.
Why a different standard for Canelo?
As usual, Canelo/ GBP envy lurks behind these sentiments.

Re: Canelo interested to face Kovalev at LHW.
Lomachenko would fight Manny at 140 in a second. He wouldn't do it to take an ass whipping from Crawford, but he would for PAC.
