Ahhh, assjtac, you don't even pretend to not have a half dozen accounts. Either that or there are a half dozen posters that love Briggs, spong and Ali Zhang Jung raymi.

I have seen all the heavyweight champions since the beginning of the sport. If we are to use the word "best" correctly, ought we not to mean "the man who is most likely to win against most of all the others"? The list is short, only the giants make it. Tyson Fury is the most skilled super heavy ever but not likely the best. Vitali Klitschko is likely the most difficult to beat so he has to be the best ever.

I know what you mean Oogie. Fury is quick, awkward and huge. There is no doubt he is very adept at getting the best out of the advantages he has been blessed with, so yes he is not without skills.
I wouldn't put him forward as the most skillful of the current crop though. To me boxing skill in it's purest sense isn't reliant on speed or physical advantage. For me the most skillful heavyweight can stay in the pocket right within range of the bigger man and defy him to land a punch. I had Povetkin as the greatest exponent of skillful boxing at heavyweight for years but now that Usyk is moving up we have a new master of the noble art.
In my opinion obviously.

He won pretty much everything you can win as a boxer, both as a pro, as well as an amateur.
Some cowards in the sport even ran away scared of him in the ring and did everything they could and can to avoid fighting him because he's so far supreme above themself. Also note that he did it at the highest weightclass there exist, despite he's absolutely not that tall himself and neither does he have long range, it's purely his skills, speed, intelligence, stamina, efford and name it that let him come this far. All Americans he ever faced have lost badly against him and many other Americans simply avoided him because they were so cowardish. Till this day!

Povetkin is/was very decent HW, during the last decade he was always (or almost always) among the top ten HW.Duran1970 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2019, 16:18Povetkin a historical legend???getnada wrote: ↑03 Mar 2019, 11:00Absolutely, I think there has actually never been such a high skilled heavyweight as he is.Duran1970 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2019, 10:54Povetkin a historical legend???getnada wrote: ↑24 Feb 2019, 12:32Obviously. He has been an Olympic winner, and this is a great achievement in amateur boxing, but he is not a historical legend at pro-boxing, definitely.

When a question such as this is asked, please first define what is meant by adjective "best" relative to the question. Otherwise, everyone here uses different and divergent criteria.

Must be adsfkl on the loose again.
Calling Povetkin a "historical legend" (definitely up there with Ali, Louis and Johnson as a sociopolitical giant) and insisting that we've never seen anything like Joshua before.
Not even historical legend Povetkin?
And of course railing against the evil Americans.
What, no mention of the devious Deontay Wilder?

Re: The best HW you have ever seen ?
Not just "best" but also "you have ever seen".
Clearly that is different from asking who was the best of all the heavyweights but does "you have ever seen" mean you were present in the auditorium, or does it include "seeing the fighter on TV" or if so how about old films, does that count?

I presume seeing video is sufficient. I can't presume anything of "best".candyslim wrote: ↑03 Mar 2019, 16:38 Not just "best" but also "you have ever seen".

Teofilo Stevenson always wanted to fight M. Ali but the Cuban government would not allow it. He was convinced that he could beat Ali. Stevenson fought the Russian heavy Igor Vysotsky twice. Vysotsky beat him both times. This is why the so called world champions in the US and UK before the 1990's were really only US-UK champions, not world champions. They never fought any eastern Europeans or Russians or Cubans. Cubans are still not allowed to turn pro, but there are many Cuban ex pats now.
The best heavy I ever saw was Vitali Klitschko. Rocky Marciano #2.

Re: The best HW you have ever seen ?
I concur with Vitali Klitschko, as I wrote above on this thread. He was an indomitable force. For the reasons I select Vitali, Marciano would have to be excluded from the list. Marciano has his place, but not with the heavyweights. Perhaps Marciano is the best cruiserweight ever -though now it looks like Usyk may take that away from him.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑05 Mar 2019, 10:18

Marciano was the hardest hitting man on earth.
He would have swallowed and regurgitated cruiserweights.
As always, too much silly obsession with weight by modern fans. Talent, toughness. That's what counts.

Clearly size counts too. That's why they have weight divisions...even though the present weight divisions are illogical and antiquated.
