Get in there Frank, 30 years ago!!
Tyson vs Bruno is 30 years old today, not sure how 30 years has passed so quickly.
I remember watching the fight the day after, I’d hid from the world so I didn’t know the result before I saw it. After 15 seconds I thought I was going to watch the fastest ever heavyweight title fight with Frank being put down with the first punches landed by Tyson.
Frank came back in that 1st round and landdd that left hook to make Harry Carpenter utter that line, it was one of the only times Harry showed his emotion when commenting.
The fight itself went the way it was predicted, Frank stopped after absorbing some hellacious shots from Tyson, no shame there.
But 30 years, that can’t be right !

I think it was the first boxing on Sky , they used it to sell dishes, certainly not PPV , that was used for the first time for the 2nd Tyson vs Bruno fight

I had a dish in time for the second fight, I think it was the first PPV, certainly the first I paid for.Old bones Ian wrote: ↑25 Feb 2019, 11:57 I think it was the first boxing on Sky , they used it to sell dishes, certainly not PPV , that was used for the first time for the 2nd Tyson vs Bruno fight
Fell asleep watching some boring fights, woke up in time for Bruno with a big neck ache to be hugely disappointed. I think I'm a reasonable judge when it come to predicting a fight but between Frank underperforming, really wanting him to win and falling for the McGuigan bs, it taught me a good lesson!

God I feel old...
Re: Get in there Frank, 30 years ago!!
I was only 5 then
I don't think I've ever seen the fight in full, I remember watching the second fight when Frank was cacking himself.

I remember listening to the 1st fight in bed on the radio.
I was so much cheering Frank on, more counting down the clock, hoping for him to get through as many rounds as possible.

Anyway , as a Frank fan I thought he did ok in the fight, he came back from a start that could of followed him for the rest of his life if he didn’t get up, or blown away in a round. He gave good version of Tyson a fight , and took his lumps like a champion
Re: Get in there Frank, 30 years ago!!
I remember it well. He did alright did Frank, no-one really gave him a chance in that fight. I remember Tyson throwing a left hook after the bell, it annoyed me.

If memory serves me right it was shown on a Sunday afternoon on BBC1 and immortalised in British boxing folklore by Harry Carpenter's "get in there Frank" exhortation. Huge fights like these were pretty rare and shown on national tv were huge events which gripped a large proportion of the country. Unlike now when you have to fork out twenty quid to see a has been getting tanked by a never has been on some PPV channel or other.

IT was live on Sky TV. It was used to shift dishes, not PPV. The rematch was the first PPV £9.99 with a full British leg of world title fights included. It was shown delayed on ITV at 9.25 am and on BBC 1 the following evening.
