Re: ALI VS LISTON II............
I don't think anyone denies Liston was hit, the controversy is whether or not he faked being hurt that much.vatech1983 wrote: ↑26 Feb 2019, 00:16

Re: ALI VS LISTON II............
The Ali vs Cleveland William bout shows Cleveland taking virtually the same punch Liston took; Ali slapping out a right hand while moving away. The same shot he landed on Liston, but when Cleveland Williams goes down, he reacts the way you would expect someone who takes that level of punch to act, he gets up at two. It is the flash KD, it should have been been a flash KD for Liston.
Liston went down legit, but he chose to stay down (even falling down twice). It was Marciano-Walcott II again. Liston was trying to walk away from the fight, content with the payday.
The punch is at 7:25 on this video. Same punch, it is shows how Liston should have handled the punch.

Re: ALI VS LISTON II............
Liston made it look foolish rolling around waiting to.be counted out from such a lovetap.
Walcott was hit with a terrific uppercut and didn't pick up the count properly
Hardly comparable to the Liston fiasco

Re: ALI VS LISTON II............
I've always been suspicious of the Walcott-Marciano fight as well. Walcott does almost nothing offensively. After Walcott gets counted out, he gets up calmly and several people are in the ring for a while. Then all of a sudden he gets mad about the count and starts making a big deal that he got ripped off. That looks fake.
It was like he suddenly remembered that he should have been complaining about the count.
It didn't seem that either Liston or Walcott seemed to really want to fight.

Re: ALI VS LISTON II............
I know Duran1970 doesn't agree but I always felt that Walcott took one punch and looked for a soft spot to lay down. Just one last big payday to a very long career. I believe Liston was doing the same thing, but Ali screwed him over by not letting Walcott count him out.
I always thought too that Nat Fleischer was way out of line involving himself in the Liston bout; as Kalan use to argue a fighter has a right to a count by the referee; Walcott should have told Fleischer to bugger off.
TRIVIA: Walcott got parity with Marciano for the rematch and boy was Marciano angry; his never forgave Al Wiell, if there was any possibility of a relationship it was done in with the distribution of the rematch money. Marciano spent the rest of his life (retirement) trying to screw Weill out of his 50%. (Which is a good thing.)
Marciano use to get $2000 for an appearance but Weill was entitled to half, so Marciano use to tell the host to pay him just $500 in cash and then give nothing to Weill. Marciano was willing to take half of his half just to see to it that Al Weill got nothing.

Re: ALI VS LISTON II............
Yes but that one punch was legit..a solid uppercut stiffened his legs...he was hurt from a big puncher no question..but if you wanna argue he could've gotten up you have a case...but to compare it to the Freakshow Liston pulled from such a tap is wrong.
We've all seen cases of fighters getting up at 10 or 11 then complaining the stoppage but to the knowledgeable eye they could tell they wanted no more..you could make a case Walcott did this but my whole point was it isn't comparable to the crap Liston pulled rolling around like he was shot
