Martin was a calculated risk at the time. Proved to be useless but on paper an unbeaten, 6 foot 5 southpaw with a big knockout percentage and a world champion. If it wasn't for the belt you don't face that kind of opponent in your 16th fight as a heavyweight prospect.

Of course Whyte was a risk, a guy who has gone on to be a top 5 heavyweight, who can punch, they were both inexperienced then and Whyte held an amateur win over Joshua. Lots of fighters would avoid that kind of opponent with only a British title at stake, Fury and Price never met at that stage.
Don’t try and speak sense! Some people will criticise Joshua no matter what he did.

Whyte was absolutely a risk. The comparison to Fury Price is a great one too. Fury didn’t risk that and took a step back to avoid the fight for whatever reason.

Nobody knew what Martin had when Joshua fought him. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I bet nobody else beats him that easy though. Fury wouldn’t stop him, let alone inside a couple of rounds. Wilder would stop him but he takes a while to get going.

It seems Joshua beats people for others in a way. Povetkin would give Wilder and Fury fits, both seemingly don’t have to fight him now though which is weird, all because Joshua bounced him off the canvas. Same goes with Whyte and Parker. Joshua’s leftovers but both would give Wilder and Fury a good argument.

Where have I criticised him? Martin wasn't a risk by any stetch if the imagination and nobody knew that Whyte would go in to be a "top 5 heavyweight"

Personally I'm not convinced by Whyte, somebody who struggles against an ancient Chisora doesn't do much for me that's a separate conversation. But I wasn't criticising Joshua. I was just making the point these fights were not considered risks at the time an hindsight confirms that. I'm not sure how you could argue the amateur win over Aj makes it a risk. Aj went on to win a gold medal in the Olympics and what did Whyte achieve as an amateur??? Who was Whyte best professional win against prior to fighting Aj...

I still think Joshuas record is better than everybody elses, it would be hard to try and argue against that. but I don't there's been any risks taken along the way. Its not his fault the division is so weak

Hindsight shows Martin was less of a risk than thought and Whyte was more of a risk than thought.

Both were considered more risky at the time than Tony Thompson was for David Price the first time. You have to remember this is heavyweight boxing where prospects are handled very carefully. Nobody could be sure what AJ's chin was like at that time.

Now AJ is a three-belt champion, we didn't how he would be in late 2015, we are talking about his 15th and 16th fights, off the back of two rounds against Kevin Johnson and one round against Gary Cornish, having never completed three rounds before.

From my memory Martin wasn't considered a risk but I might be wrong. It was a smart move as an easy way to pick up a world title. Was this the start of Ajs PPV shows? Or was it earlier than that?

I really don't remember anyone saying Martin was a risk. If they did they must have not seen him fight before.

Joshua-Whyte took place 2-3 months before. That was a PPV. TBF, they had a decent undercard.

As popular as Tyson has become, let's be honest here. He's signed with Top Rank/ESPN. He's then said that he'll be telling them to make the Wilder rematch as his next fight. Within a few days it's announced that the rematch isn't happening next. If Joshua/Hearn had done/said the same thing as Tyson over the past week they'd be getting absolutely slaughtered for it.

Has much has i like Tyson , actually his personality that is , not his boxing style , punch , run , jab run does'nt excite me as a fan , in fact he's boring, except he's a bit like Khan , you know if caught he can go , but that does add to the sparkle , anyway has much as i like him , i would'nt believe a word he says , any more than the gypsy who knocks on my door and tells me my roof is stuffed , What charity got his purse for the Wilder fight , anyone know

It was only going to take half an hour to sort the rematch unlike with that big dosser who doesn't want to fight anyone.

Amazing that the one who comes out looking the best from all of this is formerly manufactured protected bum-slayer Wilder. Now it looks like he’s the most up for fighting and the other two are just in it for the money and their ever growing egos.

Back to the lower weight classes then for me.

If Fury was still world champion then I can understand the ESPN move but all he's basically done is froze himself out of the big fights, I'm not sure how ESPN and Arum are going to justify the inflated fees he's getting, if he'd took the Wilder rematch he'd have a great chance of winning, picking up the WBC an then him and ESPN will be have been laughing

I'm sure this is all Eddie's fault though still

Fury 'i'm not about the money' and his 80 million deal to further distance himself away from the other champs speaks volumes.

I can't believe he will be fighting Wilder next, not with this deal now in place. There is too much money to be milked from the fans. Let alone the obstacles with tv and promotional contracts.

Who is he going to fight though, because whoever it is, it's likely to be a major disappointment.

He turned down 60/40 then 50/50 in a rematch (if he won) to fight Joshua, before the Fury rematch was signed - to me it looks like he mugged himself off.

There must be a plan, but what the hell is It?

I get It if they are in secret negotiations to fight AJ.

Other than that what options are there? AJ has already beaten everyone other than Pulev. Is Fury going to feast over Parker, Whyte and Pov?

Unfortunately there aren't really any good fights out there.

Prob Miller is about the next best option, at least he will generate interest with his gob.
