AN ASSOCIATED PRESS WIRE JAN 7, 1933 -PUBLISHED JAN 8 1933 IN DIARIO DE LA MARINA- A HAVANA NEWSPAPER INDICATES-
WILLIAM JUBB -AGED 80- FOUGHT A DRAW WITH 92 YEAR OLD GEORGE WASHINGTON BROWN IN A ST PETERSBURG, FLORIDA FIGHT CARD. IF YOU THINK THIS IS MIND BLOWING, THAT'S NOT ALL- THE THIRD MAN IN THE RING, CHARLES ELRIDGE IS CITED AS BEING 101.
THE HIGH POINT OF THE 4 ROUNDER -"IN WHICH BOTH MEN MOVED AROUND LIKE BANTAMS," HAPPENED IN THE THIRD STANZA WHEN BROWN PUNCHED JUBB'S DENTURES OUT OF HIS MOUTH. IN ANOTHER GOLDEN MOMENT, BOTH MEN CLINCHED AND FELL TOGETHER TO THE CANVAS.
I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE BULLSHIT, BUT IT'S THERE IN THE PRESS CLIP.....
I'm going to add it to the database with a proper comment. The card took place during the depression and it was probably a gimmick to attract a good gate with the ages highly exagerated, but it still could be the oldest geezer fight on record...
The trend is coming back . I was at some white collar boxing card (amateur ) in Chicago recently in which two fighters got in the ring who had to be at least 70 years old each. The ref climbed out of the ring and refused to officiate the bout.
