Hammer will survive, I believe. But that's his maximum in this matchup, Ortiz is far better boxer.

I agree.

Actually, I believe Hammer may even win 1 or 2 rounds.

Well that was not a great fight to watch.

Hammer did a lot better than I thought he would, or is that a case of Ortiz falling completely off the wagon? Ortiz output completely slowed down in the second half, and he resorted to pawing out the jab and arm shots.

I think a UD as wide as that is extremely unfair on Hammer, especially when he picked himself a knockdown in the 2nd round.

Has Ortiz ever impressed against that level of fighter?

Jennings is no world beater, but I rate him more than hammer.

I had 100-91 for Ortiz. He needs a last shot before going out, being short of becoming 40 years old (on paper) in two weeks

Yes he has. I am still pissed off about Wilder and the phony ref and ring doctor and their little medical examination act to buy him extra time when Ortiz was about to KO him.

Really was expecting more from Ortiz. IMO, he won 100-91, but looked quite vulnerable in there against an experienced but limited Christian Hammer.
His defense was not that good, and he just seems to have trouble finding the right distance to effective work from. He also slowed down late, although he finished strong in the final round.
On the positive side, he jabbed pretty well, landed some wicked body shots, as well as some nice combinations. Hammer clearly didn't come to lay down.
I would say Ortiz is the clear underdog against the Top 3. I felt before this fight that he might be able to beat Wilder in a rematch, but not likely now. He would have a slightly better chance at beating Joshua. He best chance, I believe, would be against Tyson Fury, although, I think he would have to get to him in the 1st half of the fight.

I felt that Hammer did some good things in the ring. He showed above the mark toughness and was able to get off some nice shots. Unfortunately he seems to be unable to put punches together. Anyway, I find myself today applauding Hammer's tenacity instead of dismissing Ortiz' performance.

It sounds like it played out as I predicted: Uninspiring and one-sided decision win. Is it worth watching, I'm struggling to find much enthusiasm?

I feel it is definitely worth the watch. Some good punches were thrown. both fighters had blood running from their noses.

First five rounds were pretty good actually...back half it slowed down but had its moments. It was far better than I anticipated.

I don't doubt that, asshat. Wilder breathing air pisses you off. Hopefully someday he can meet his maker and finally face Briggs or Zhang.

Whyte v Ortiz should happen. They’d both make good money and it could go either way.

And it would be an excellent fight. The only thing I could find against, it is another potentially huge boulder in the road for Dillian to negotiate. Still, it could be argued he just turned down a title shot, and let's face it, Whyte doesn't really go for the easy option even if it's there. :TU:

Povetkin v Whyte would be a terrific fight too, if Usyk prefers to start out against Takam.
