Jack Culcay vs. Sergey Derevyanchenko - April 13, 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former WBA super welterweight champ Jack Culcay, 25-3 and now IBF # 2 at middleweight and IBF # 4 Sergey Derevyanchenko was nominated already in early December for a final eliminator where the winner will challenge the IBF champ, Daniel Jacobs.

There´s been no agreement and tomorrow - January 15 there will be purse bids at the IBF headquarters in New Jersey.

AGON Sports, who promotes Culcay, writes in a press release that they are determined to get the fight to Germany.

Culcay's tough, Derevyanchenko would win by a 116-112 type of decision. There were also rumours that Culcay will fight EBU Champion Kamil Szeremeta, i would like to see this fight too but it's not going to happen now.

Culcay is probably one of my biggest deception of the last decade with guys like Darley Perez... Culcay had all the talent in the world... but did bad vs crude but tough fighters. Lack of discipline, preperation, stamina...focus

Derevyanchenko-Culcay TItle Eliminator: DIBella Outbids AGON

The proposed middleweight title eliminator between Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Jack Culcay might not head to Germany after all.

Lou DiBella, Derevyanchenko’s promoter secured the rights to the International Boxing Federation (IBF)-ordered final eliminator during a purse bid hearing held Tuesday afternoon at the sanctioning body’s New Jersey headquarters. The New York-based promoter offering a winning bid of $425,515 to secure the rights to the forthcoming bout.

The lone other bidder during Tuesday’s session was AGON Sports, Culcay’s promoter who talked a good game beforehand of bringing the bout to Germany. However, the Berlin-based outfit left the fate of its fighter in the hands of the enemy after falling well short with its $397,713 offering.

Assuming both parties sign off, the middleweight clash is tentatively due to take place in early spring somewhere in the U.S. The winner will become the mandatory challenger to current titlist Daniel Jacobs, who won the vacant crown in a 12-round split decision win over Derevyanchenko—his training stablemate—last October at Hulu Theatre in New York City.

A win of sorts for Culcay comes in the final purse split. Thanks a new rule instituted by the IBF, the higher-rated challenger for any sanctioned eliminator is entitled to the favorable end of a 65/35 purse split.
Culcay is the IBF’s #3 contender, one spot ahead of Derevyanchenko.

April 13 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The bout will serve as the televised co-feature to an already scheduled PBC show with local favorite Caleb Truax headlining in a 12-round super middleweight clash versus Peter Quillin.

Don’t like it when fighters go straight into a final eliminator for a belt that they recently fought for and lost. Derev did well against Jacobs but deserved to lose and the rematch would be no different. I think canelo will beat Jacobs however and he would destroy culcay or derev.

AGON promoted middleweight Jack Culcay fights Sergiy Derevyanchenko on April 13 in Minneapolis and will now have none other than former WBA, WBO and EBU champ Juergen Braehmer as trainer along with Michael Stachewicz.

Braehmer also trains another AGON fighter in Tyron Zeuge.

No word on Braehmer´s still ongoing fighting career though but he is still mandatory challenger for the EBU super middleweight title.

Late knockout or wide decision?

Let’s not forget, this bout is not taking place in Germany.

In an IBF middleweight eliminator, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, a Ukrainian based in Brooklyn, won a 12-round unanimous decision over Jack Culcay by the scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 116-112.

Derevyanchenko, 33, was busier throughout the bout, especially with body punches. But Culcay, an Ecuadorian fighting out of Davie, Florida, rocked him with an uppercut in the fifth round and staggered him in the 10th with a right to the head.

The 33-year-old Culcay (25-4, 13 KOs) appeared to run out of gas in the final round, and Derevyanchenko (13-1, 10 KOs) rallied to have his most productive round of the match.

Evenly matched, just boring as hell. Everything but the UFC was yesterday.

We will have to agree to disagree. I thought there was more than a sufficient amount of violence. There were a couple of moments in the fight when I felt that Culcay was going to flatten the Ukrainian on the canvas.

Hogan fought the best I've ever seen him do. Shame.
