Reminiscent of Joe Frazier, but lacks Joe's focus (and the killer punch). No one beats Dereck Chisora easily, plus his pressing style must be a nightmare to face.

Certainly can't put him in the same bracket as Price when it comes to unfulfilled potential, though both men are incredibly game.

Chisora has had a great career.
Fought Fury (x2), Vitali, Haye, Whyte (x2)
Won British, CW, Euro titles...
And still got a few big fights left in him. :TU:

Would be perfect to see him go on to win one of the secondary world titles (Joe Joyce will fight for the WBA reg in the next 12month?) and get revenge on Helenius & Kabayel on the way.

With UK promoters/networks desperate for fights and David Haye thrown in as part of the deal im sure some good money can be made too...

Del Boy has overachieved. No doubt about it at all.

Had a great career.

Remember, he barely got passed Tom Dallas in an ABA Final.

He's not especially skilled, doesn't have concussive power or a great engine. What do you expect?

Actually that's overly harsh. He's a good fighter who's had a very good career, but with serious and clear limitations.

im not really sure price had much unfullfilled potential, top level power but simply not with the durability ,stamina, or mentality to do much more then he did

I make him less than 50/50 to beat Parker.

Puncher's chance mate, that's about it. He isn't going to outwork Parker, or outbox him either, I don't think.
Love Del Boy to bits, but Parker isn't the best match for him.

All true but Parker looked so lethargic against Whyte for 10 rounds that I figure even Chisora can outwork that version.

But if Parker comes prepared from the opening bell, he should cleanly outbox Chisora.

Parker was affected a lot by the head clash, before that he was picking Whyte apart, like he was at a different speed. Joyce is my preferred opponent for Del.

He's one of the most charismatic people in boxing but from time to time freaks me out with some of his antics.
Way tougher than I ever estimated and can get himself up for a fight quicker than most,

I have been watching Dereck for a few years now (by few I mean a long time, live and at home) the problem I feel is his skill set doesn't match his intensity especially when he was younger.

As he has got older the skill set has remained the same but intensity has decreased which has resulted in a few brutal KO's (Haye and Whyte 2)

The only two “proper” KO losses that Chisora suffered were the direct result of massive left hooks. There's no shame for any heavyweight to lose that way.

I personally didn’t think there was much wrong with Chisora’s work-rate for both of his bouts against Dillian Whyte. And even though he was being out-worked by Carlos Takam for the majority of their contest, ‘Del Boy’ showed fantastic durability and endurance in that fight.

I thought the Haye loss was simply a case of falling victim to a decent shot and that it was the Hayemaker that was running out of gas in that fight.

It might sound a bit strange, especially when we’re talking about a 35-year-old fighter, but the 2018 version of Dereck Chisora should be considered as being ‘Del Boy’ in his prime.

However, I believe that Chisora has already reached his peak and I have my doubts about his ability to maintain his form after suffering such a devastating and brutal loss to Dillian Whyte.

I think he may become gun-shy against the next heavy-handed fighter he faces and he hasn’t got the skill-set to outbox opponents.

So, if he’s matched with someone like Joseph Parker for his next outing, I expect the Brit to start looking for the exit door as soon as he’s forced to absorb some heavy punishment. His will might already be broken.

I have to disagree on this part. Chisora has too much pride. He may end up with slurred speech and a scrambled brain by the end of his career. But I can't picture him to look for an exit.

Enlightened-One wrote: 07 Mar 2019, 06:26 Dereck Chisora was a car dealer for much of his time spent being a pro boxer. He had multiple plates to spin.

Del Boy’s long-time former trainer, Don Charles, has mainly worked with British domestic-level fighters.

He hasn’t had the right training program, facilities and diet.

Chisora possessed the mind-set of a journeyman, probably because of a lack of belief in himself, causing a lack of discipline and subsequently drinking/partying, when he should have been fully-dedicated to his ring-craft.

I’m not criticising Chisora for previously taking the sport of boxing less seriously than he should have, because he’s probably just a product of his environment.

It might be far too late for him now, but I feel that Chisora could have achieved far more in the sport of boxing if he had been blessed with the type of support/benefits that were lavished upon Anthony Joshua from day one, because ‘Del Boy’ proved that he was capable of raising his game to operating at world-level without many of AJ’s advantages, such as when he faced the likes of: Dillian Whyte (twice); Carlos Takam; David Haye; Robert Helenius; and Vitali Klitschko.

That being said, Dereck Chisora has enjoyed a very good career and it’s impossible for every fighter to become a world-beater. Most people would think that ‘Del Boy’ hasn’t actually done much “wrong in boxing.”

Not every fighter needs to capture a world title during their careers to earn my respect.
I think that sums it up rather well.

I wouldn't put him in the same league as a Quarry even, but I get your point.
Agreed. It was Quarry's misfortune to be around at the same time as Ali, Frazier and Foreman and without being blessed with either the speed, power, size and strength attributes which the other three had at least two of. Jerry could conceivably have been a world champion in a weaker era. As it was he was one of the best around in the greatest era of heavyweight boxing ever.

He will forever be a hero of mine and Delboy is granted a massive honour just by being mentioned in the same sentence.
