Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
Delving deeper into the heavyweight scene below the nonsense and merry go round of AJ/Wilder/Fury...
Whyte, Miller, Brezeale, Povetkin, Usyk, Parker, Ortiz, Michael Hunter, Pulev, Rivas, potentially Gassiev moving up too....
While not top notch quality, there's competitve fights there to be made is there not?
Then the likes of Hrgovic, Kabayel, Kuzman, Dubois, Gorman, and Yoka coming through.....now we can probably add this Agaba kid in as well!
The heavyweight boxing scene is actually quite healthy!

Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
Pretty damn efficient job by Ajagba. He completely dominated Mansour. Didn't quite KO him, but dropped him 3 times, and had him wobbly at the end of Round 2. Mansour knew he stood no chance, and wisely called it a day. This vaults Ajagba into the Top 25 at the very least I'd say. Probably Top 20. He's definitely a guy to keep an eye on. I'd keep matching him against guys like this for the rest of the year, but I'd try to get him a fight every few months if I'm his manager. Hell if he keeps taking 'em out in 1 or 2 rounds it ain't like he's expending much energy
Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
Nice post. I'm hoping his handlers aren't yet concerned with his ranking as much as for his development. He dominated a past it fighter tonight, and everyone knows I've been touting Efe for a while now. (rather effusively). He still has work to do and needs to step up his next fight and be challenged a bit more. He looks awfully good and at 24/25 has a time to do this right. I was thrilled at his jab and ability to connect when not on his front foot, and during pivots. Wasn't horrible cutting off the ring, but should get better. Real good looking young HW. Anyone else think his height looks more than 6'5"?gilgamesh wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 21:45 Pretty damn efficient job by Ajagba. He completely dominated Mansour. Yeah, staying busy is the key since he is not getting many rounds in. No need to rush him since there are so many newer HW prospects around these days. Just let the others sort themselves out. Being on a broadcast network like FOX got him some great exposure tonight. Before long even casuals will recognize his name. With his power and top-notch conditioning he is becoming a bigger version of sculpted fighters like Holyfield.gilgamesh wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 21:45 Pretty damn efficient job by Ajagba. Fee Ajagba is definitely one to watch.
That power is scary. One heck of a prospect.

100%. Took a couple of good shots in the first round and walked right through it. Can't wait for his next fight.tiny_acres wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 22:41 Fee Ajagba is definitely one to watch.

If only they would be more active. Wlad will probably be the last HW who racks up 60+ fights (apart from Journeymen) like they all used to.Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 21:42 Delving deeper into the heavyweight scene below the nonsense and merry go round of AJ/Wilder/Fury...

There are probably another 4-5 other prospects coming up that may be able to mix it in the top 20-25.

Needs rounds though. Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
mansour was just a punch bag , i hate to be that guy but this was totally predictable and a lot of ppl wouldve done the same. amir has offered nothing his last several fights and is closer to 50 then 40. stopping roddy hernandez is more impressive to me
they should look to someone dura b le next, i know ppl cant stand kj, but look at how much more durable he was them mansour, maybe him

Unless he's fighting a legitimate contender I don't see him going too many roundsoogiebe wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 22:53Needs rounds though. who knows yet. look how hrgovic blasted through mansour early yet couldnt budge johnson much
Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
That's an easy problem to solve. Just match him against a guy that's not too dangerous, but is known for toughness. Mariusz Wach. Dominick Guinn...I'm sure there are others guys in this mold.tiny_acres wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 22:58Unless he's fighting a legitimate contender I don't see him going too many roundsoogiebe wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 22:53Needs rounds though. I think he is closer to 6'7" than 6'6". Let's not talk about 6'5".oogiebe wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 21:58Nice post. Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
Mansour isn't hardcore anymore, he's just meat for young lions. He quitted against Hrgovic, now against Ajagba, but I even don't blame him. He's too old and needs to retire. He has nothing to suggest against top and rising competitors anymore.
Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
It went exactly as expected. We learned very little other than Hrgovic wasn't just a blip, Mansour has reached the end of the line.
Ajagba continues to impress. He goes about his work in calm unhurried fashion, looks quite nimble for a big man, is quite adept at giving ground suddenly in order to nullify Mansour's rushing attacks, and the composure to counter while doing it.
Amir threw one right hook kn the second which looked to me to be a real attempt to hurt Ajagba and alter the course of the fight. It landed flush on the side of Efe's jaw but he didn't do much more than blink. He looks to have at least a decent chin.
I felt quite sorry for Amir. He's faced by this wall of muscle, can't find a way past these looong arms, and when he tries to close the range gets a face full of hard leather for his trouble. At least he got well paid but I'd be happy not to see 'Hardcore' in a ring again.

Re: Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09
Just caught up with this bout.
Still early days of course but it was an efficient job by Ajagba. Looks to have really good timing, at least against this slow, predictable opponent.
Agree with those folks above saying he should get out often, and just gradually increase the calibre of his opponents.
Until he fights sometime in the top 15, he likely won't be needing much more than 4 rounds to be getting the job done as he racks up the winning record.
