Close but no cigar.

Mikkel putting that boring, protected kraut Beyer out of business and definitely deserves a slap on the back from anyone who loves boxing.

But when push comes to shove he got beaten by Joe C, Andre and Froch properly figured him out the second time round. He was never disgraced in this company but just came up a tad short.

The win over Froch in Denmark is an interesting one.....fighters often have excuses......but the fact that Froch hardly knew whether the fight was on or off right up until the last moment due to an Icelandic volcano blowing its top and having the journey from hell to get there does feel like Mikkel getting the rub of the green for his most important win.

Personally....always liked the guy, he's half-English as well.

the first win over froch was perfectly legit, i rate it higher then i do frochs rematch win, i dont think froch 'figured' him out either , i think he was not the same he was the first time

Disagree I am afraid ...…..Froch boxed excellently the second time round, much more considered and proof that Carl was not simply a banger or solely reliant on trading on his power/chin and strength.

The first fight with Kessler was a legit win for Mikkel - Froch agrees to this - but he had a hugely disrupted/nightmarish lead-in to the fight due to that volcano blowing which can't have helped.

I did like and rate Kessler btw.....but he just feels an inch of IBHOF status.

thats a limp excuse re the volcano. david hayes toe is a better excuse. so what, froch got to the ring and started fighting, he wasnt in a volcano or on a flight any more

kess was not the same fighter in a rematch, his balance was much worse and hed taken a break from the game and then retired straight after for good reason. it was still a good fight though and kessler was still a good fighter, just with a lost step , froch had the edge but did sag for a moment in the 11th

He was a very good fighter.
Are there more qualified fighters not in? Of course. Some have waited for decades.
Would he be the worst if elected? Of course not. There have several worse, some recently.
He has the pretty record, WBS titles, WBS title defenses. That has fooled people in the past who don't know any better.

I did like and rate Kessler when all is said and done :salut:

He was ultra-competitive against Calzaghe in a very tough stadium fight with half of Wales out there for Joe and at least he was prepared to take his show in the road a bit. He might well have faced the best of Joe as well.

I'd also forgotten he'd beaten Mundine down in Australia and also risked the whole 'stinky' German hometown robbery thing and beaten Haussler in Das Vaterland.

I thought froch won both fights. Definite no for me.

He beat Froch the first time (second time the injuries & wear & tear had slowed him right down) & won several alphabet belts. But he was never the best in the world at his weight—maybe always a clear number two?

Lovely fella, though.

Borderline at best. I wouldn't vote him in.

I'd say no. I liked him and thought he was very good. But he just isn't quite there.
