DAZN Announces Gennady Golovkin’s 3-Year, 6-Fight Agreement
The “Is” finally have been dotted and the “Ts” now are crossed on Triple-G’s new deal with DAZN.
Gennady Golovkin and DAZN group executive chairman John Skipper worked well into the night Thursday to finalize an agreement for the former middleweight champion that has been in the works for months.
BS.com has confirmed that Golovkin’s contract is for three years and calls for him to fight twice per calendar year, six fights in all.
Golovkin’s deal, first reported by RingTV.com recently, was announced in a press release Friday morning. A press conference also has been scheduled for Monday in Los Angeles.
His DAZN debut will take place on an undetermined Saturday in June, one of the four in the month following the Anthony Joshua-Jarrell Miller heavyweight title fight June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Golovkin’s opponent hasn’t been chosen, either, but BS.com has learned that he will not fight an elite middleweight because there is a payday in excess of $30 million at stake for Golovkin to battle Canelo Alvarez a third time September 14.
The DAZN-Golovkin partnership also affords Golovkin two fight cards per year in 2020 and 2021 to showcase boxers signed with his promotional company. Golovkin has been afforded the option of purchasing equity in DAZN through his fight purses as well, though it is not yet clear whether that has happened.

Re: DAZN Announces Gennady Golovkin’s 3-Year, 6-Fight Agreement
Golovkin plans to return to the ring in June against an opponent to be named at a later date.
“DAZN has quickly become the new home of boxing by making the biggest events easily available to the fans,” said Golovkin.
“When deciding on where I wanted to continue my career, DAZN’s global vision perfectly matched my goals – not just for my career but the opportunity to showcase talented Eastern European fighters to the world. Thank you to my fans for all of the loyal support and I look forward to you joining me on DAZN.”
“Gennady Golovkin is a generational talent with international appeal,” said Skipper. “We’re confident he will bring his passionate fans to the platform as we produce tentpole events with his team over the next several years.”
The announcement sets up DAZN to stream blockbuster fights within the middleweight division for the foreseeable future, with all of the division’s champions and many top contenders regularly appearing on the platform.

Cripes! I just realised- a 3 year deal will take him to nearly 40 years old
That's a heck of a risk..

Doubt it does tbh. That’s how these tech companies run. I believe Spotify made its first ever profit last year. Same with Uber, Netflix etc. Get big names on board, absolutely domante the market and demolish all competition. 5 years down the line you’re reaping the rewards

Precisely and as fight fans we shouldn't really care about the logistics. We should be excited by good value and since there's no long term contracts required it's a win-win situation for us.

I'd pay if it was in the U.K. For. Tenner a month or whatever it is.

They are backed by the wealthiest, or second wealthiest man in the UK (Len Blavatnik) who founded Access Industries, which "Perform Group" is a subsidary of. Perform Group launched Dazn.
It is likely a case they will be making sustantial losses while overtaking all the competition out there until they have a monopoly and in time should begin to operate at profit.
At least that's how it seems of late!

Tbh. I had never heard of it before it came out of Eddie Hearn’s mouth.
Unless you watch their other content, had any boxing fan heard of DAZN?
Re: DAZN Announces Gennady Golovkin’s 3-Year, 6-Fight Agreement
DAZN really signing the big names BUT the only big ones they are signing are outside of the Eddie Hearn contract. I wonder how they really view that now with him churning out such missable dross

Re: DAZN Announces Gennady Golovkin’s 3-Year, 6-Fight Agreement
I was thinking the same.
Eddie hasn’t really signed the big names.. the big names in his US stable is probably Jacobs, AJ, Usyk, unless i’m Missing an obvious one.
Golden Boy didn’t want Hearn involved in the Canelo deal and GGG didn’t want Hearn involved as well.
Re: DAZN Announces Gennady Golovkin’s 3-Year, 6-Fight Agreement
He will need more money if he thinks he is overtaking espn any time soon the problem he has is they are throwing money at boxing but in the US boxing is about the 5th or 6th sport.Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑11 Mar 2019, 11:29They are backed by the wealthiest, or second wealthiest man in the UK (Len Blavatnik) who founded Access Industries, which "Perform Group" is a subsidary of. well that isn't good for boxing - we all know how a monopoly ends up (ala Sky a few years back) piss poor cards, top heavy cards !Fightnight Scores wrote: ↑11 Mar 2019, 11:29They are backed by the wealthiest, or second wealthiest man in the UK (Len Blavatnik) who founded Access Industries, which "Perform Group" is a subsidary of. Agreed competition is healthy, but too much causes complications, and boxing is lacking an overseeing ruler globally.kbackup408 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:15 well that isn't good for boxing - we all know how a monopoly ends up (ala Sky a few years back) piss poor cards, top heavy cards !
It would probably take a ridiculous amount of money for a single company (which is just a streaming service lets not forget) to be able to overtake all other networks out there and get all the promoters/boxers on board. But lets say they somehow managed it.
Now they have all the promoters on their platform, they should be able to demand the best fight the best in all the divisions.
They would be able to create their own rankings and 1 world title which would blow out all of the ABC bodies (another big fornicating problem in the sport) outof the water.
.....Essentially its a means of creating the WWE of wrestling or the UFC of MMA.

Re: DAZN Announces Gennady Golovkin’s 3-Year, 6-Fight Agreement
that is a scary thought mate, my loyalty doesn't lie with a network/streaming service I want to watch the best fights - what else do you know about DAZN is their business model sustainable? I know they launched in Spain lastweekFightnight Scores wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:23Agreed competition is healthy, but too much causes complications, and boxing is lacking an overseeing ruler globally.kbackup408 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:15 well that isn't good for boxing - we all know how a monopoly ends up (ala Sky a few years back) piss poor cards, top heavy cards !
