Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
lol, as if an aj fight will be far more likely if he turns it down though
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
all proper reasoning tells me this is bvllshvt. There's no good reason out there to turn down $100 Million. Good Lord!

Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Agree. Something doesn't smell right. $100m for 3 fights, including 2 against Joshua, and it gets rejected? Doesn't add up.
Nor did the reported $50m offer for 2 fights, not including Joshua. No way anybody is paying Wilder that kind of money to beat up two stiffs with the risk of him jumping ship before providing any return on investment.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Time will tell on this fiasco.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
This could be a negotiating ploy for better terms. No word if DAZN pulled their offer.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Further rumors are another deal came to Wilder that was bigger. (ESPN?)

Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
You never know what other stipulations DAZN might have insisted on that played a role in the rejection.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
No Joshua v Wilder or Fury in 2019
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Didn't we give Joshua v Wilder 12 months from the start of 2018 ?
Few months grace and here we are talking 2020.
Really.

Looks like Joshua is in for an easy year.

Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
I will laugh my ass off if Breazeale beats wilder.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Maybe he got a better deal from ESPN and/or Top Rank. Could be an upped payment to fight Breazeale with a deal to then rematch Fury. (Fury got 100 Million, so why not?)
Showtime could've made a better offer, but not likely. No Fury or Joshua makes me doubt that, as well as the money.
Fox has been getting more into boxing (their deal with PBC) and certainly has the money to make a better offer.
Turning down the DAZN offer could be just the Breazeale fight. So maybe a DAZN deal for after that. (Showtime could match or exceed the dollars for this fight only).
What I don't believe is the loyalty factor. Not with 100 Million on the table.
DAZN could sweeten the pot between now and next week.
Maybe he's just getting poor guidance from his management.
I'm looking forward to Tuesday's official statement. I'm still shaking my head.

Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
He must think he can make more than 100 in two Josh fights. I'd definitely want to see the dazn subscription numbers before I piggybacked there. Obviously they're loaded but there is no chance in hell American subscriptions can generate this money.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
US subs currently cannot generate that kind of dough to make those deals profitable enough. I've been thinking that all of this is some sort of investment to push boxing back in the public eye here. Again, as I've posted before, maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but it's the only sense I can made of it.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 09:14 He must think he can make more than 100 in two Josh fights. All sports are down here with the exception of mma, golf, soccer and maybe college football. No sport approaches the fall from grace that boxing has had.
Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
I can't disagree. We've been through this so many times, and I'm still astounded at the difference between now and 70's and 80's and to a lesser extent the 90's. And the drop seems to be continuous.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 09:41 All sports are down here with the exception of mma, golf, soccer and maybe college football. It's a great time to be a fan here as long as you don't mind watching by yourself.oogiebe wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 09:43I can't disagree. Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
We don’t know the terms of the alleged $100m deal that DAZN offered Wilder and nor do we know if ESPN or Showtime have submitted rival bids either.
If this was DAZN’s first attempt to sign Wilder, then I’d expect Deontay to refuse the initial bid and attempt to renegotiate improved terms.
Of course, the Dominic Breazeale banana skin could potentially cost Wilder $100m+ if he somehow loses, but it would be silly for Deontay to accept the very first offer that he receives without attempting to negotiate improved terms.
Regardless, I expect Wilder to sign a deal with a network/promoter within the next couple of months.

Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
I have long suspected that Wilder really doesn't want to fight Joshua. I could be wrong and I would love to be, but this rejection doesn't do anything at all for my skepticism.
I get the feeling Deontay was very happy knocking out the Molinas and the Szpilkas of this world and clearing about $0.5m to 1m nett each time which is still an enormous sum of money for most people, and would like to continue until his retirement as undefeated WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Personally that would do me too in his position. I desperately want to be wrong though because it would be a great fight and I want to see it more than any other.

Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
Why don't we wait on the hating of Wilder until we have some facts. see my earlier post. There are several reasons listed there and I'm sure many we just don't know. I'm surprised that you would jump to these conclusions without any word from Wilder's camp directly.candyslim wrote: ↑15 Mar 2019, 14:13 I have long suspected that Wilder really doesn't want to fight Joshua. Re: Wilder's DAZN Deal.
It's not something that has just occurred to me, it started as a hunch but the feeling has developed over time. People on here were saying "Hearn should offer him 40%, Deontay'd snap his hand off for sure". Well that worked well, now it's 50/50 or nothing doing.
Sure we should see what happens but I'm just stating my concerns. We've been waiting a long time to see this unification or at least it sure feels like it.
