Lomachenko is no longer an unknown quantity so there shouldn't be too much concern about this becoming an exhibition bout.

Besides, Crolla can do whatever he wants apart from trying to outbox Lomachenko head on. I imagine he will try to box ultra defensively and look for counters as Bellew tried against Usyk. As we have seen, even Loma makes mistakes.

If Crolla somehow gets to hear the final bell he can count it as a personal triumph.

Anthony Crolla is acutely aware of Vasyl Lomachenko's reputation as one of the best fighters on the planet but is intent on causing an almighty upset against the unified world lightweight champion.

The Mancunian said: 'It's a very difficult challenge. I'm not stupid, I'm not deluded, it's a very, very tough fight and it's a very big ask.

'I've got nowhere near as much ability as him. He does almost everything better than me. I'm fighting one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet but I'm excited by all that, I'm not scared in any way by that.

'I'm in a great place and one advantage I have got that night is I believe I am the natural lightweight between us both.

'I think that's an advantage. I don't think he's a 135lber, I think he could still make 130.

'I go in there with a game plan, I always have belief in myself, I'll be in great condition physically and mentally. I genuinely believe I can go in there and find a shot to shock the world.

'It's going to take a career-best performance or punch, I'm a huge underdog. But I'm not going over there for the experience, I'm going over there to shock the world.

'There are very, very few people expecting me to go there and pull off one of the biggest shocks in British boxing history, so I've got nothing to lose in that sense.

'But I have my own expectations and I go over there with the motivation to do that so I want to do everyone around me proud. I want to be remembered forever by doing this.'

Crolla is privileged to be sharing the ring with a living legend. 80/1 or 100/1 is pretty meaningless. Just a way to get money on Crolla and stop any easy pickings on Loma.

No pressure on Crolla whatsoever, and we know how deadly even club boxers are without pressure.

He can sit back and look for just one chance, one perfect punch. In any case Anthony will be having the time of his life in that ring.

Anything past six rounds is an achievement.

And Joyce was only 80-1 over Stiverne. Crolla can't be that bad.

Loma will be in brilliant form. Expect him to dismantle Crolla in his usual never-seen-before style. It is not that he wins but the skills and tactics he uses to win that distinguish him so much, hence the envy.

Undefeated super lightweight Arnold Barboza Jr. is a young contender closing in on a world title shot. Mike Alvarado wants another taste of world championship glory. Barboza, from South El Monte, California, will take on former 140-pound world champion Alvarado in a 10-round super lightweight bout on Friday, April 12 at Staples Center as part of the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Anthony Crolla undercard.

Also on the card:
Top welterweight contender Alexander Besputin (12-0, 9 KOs) will defend his USBA title against Alfredo Blanco (20-7, 11 KOs) in a 10-rounder. Besputin is currently ranked No. 1 by the WBA.

“I am a top welterweight, and now that I’m ranked No. 1 by the WBA, I can’t be avoided by the champions for long,” Besputin said. “I am ready to put the welterweight division on notice.”
Janibek Alimkhanuly (5-0, 2 KOs), a former amateur standout from Kazakhstan, will face the rugged Cristian Olivas (16-4, 13 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the vacant WBO Global and WBC Continental Americas middleweight belts. Two of Olivas’ four losses have come via split decision, and he has never been knocked out as a pro.
“I am training hard with Buddy McGirt, and I know that Olivas is a tough customer who will come forward and make for a great fight,” Alimkhanuly said. “It is a dream come true to fight at Staples Center, and I want to give all of the great fans in Los Angeles a spectacular show. I will show everyone what Qazaq boxing style is all about.”
Super middleweight contender and three-time Indian Olympian Vijender Singh (10-0, 7 KOs) will make his United States debut against Calvin Metcalf (9-1-1, 2 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Singh captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, becoming the first Indian boxer to claim an Olympic medal.

Italian heavyweight Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (2-0, 2 KOs), who represented his homeland at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will fight Lawrence Gabriel (3-1-1, 2 KOs) in a six-rounder.

Los Angeles native Chris “The Boy” Zavala (3-0, 2 KOs) will face Sergio Gonzales (2-2, 1 KO) in a four-rounder at super featherweight.

Dominican-born bantamweight prospect Elvis Rodriguez (1-0, 1 KO) will take on Kevin Luna (1-2, 1 KO) in a four-rounder.

Teofimo Lopez To Be Ringside For Lomachenko vs. Crolla

Rising lightweight contender Teofimo Lopez (12-0) is currently in the final stages of his training camp for his April 20th showdown against Edis Tatli (31-2). The fight takes place on the Terence Crawford-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard in New York at Madison Square Garden. ESPN will distribute the event.

The 2016 Honduran Olympian has been fast tracked through his brief pro career. The plan is for him to fight for a world title before the end of the year.

Lopez and his father/trainer of the same namesake haven’t been shy to express their interest in facing many boxing experts’ pound-for-pound king, Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Lopez isn’t very excited about it but revealed that he will be ringside to catch the action.

“Supposedly my parents want me to go out there. I’m going to go out there Thursday and he fights Friday so I’m going to be there,” Lopez told BS.com from his Las Vegas training camp.

As for the fight itself, Lomachenko is a huge betting favorite. Lopez doesn’t expect the fight to be remotely competitive.

“What do I think about it? It is just to keep Loma tuned up I guess. It’s his mandatory so let’s see what he do man, but these guys are too scared when they get in the ring with Loma,” said Lopez.

The 21-year-old Lopez hopes to face Lomachenko before the end of the year.
