Garcia's technically very sound but he's on to a hiding here. Spence is gonna fricking dwarf him & MAG isn't a devastating one-shot hitter at lightweight. I can't see Garcia keeping him off, even if he boxes the fight of his life.

Whilst others are saying it reminds them of the hallowed nights of yesteryear etc etc, when it was made all I could think of was it reminded me of the sort of bullshitty "name" fight that PBC loves—Leo Santa Cruz vs Abner Mares, for instance—where you know the poor little bastard's due a shellacking from a guy two sizes bigger, but he's a well-regarded fighter at a different weight so you watch it anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Garcia go into a "keeping in the fight" mode after five or six rounds, & losing a lop-sided decision.

:TU: Also when you have these types of fights, more often than not the speed lies with the smaller man but Garcia has looked slower when moving up, especially against Lipinets when he won his 140 title and Spence is lightening quick, think his speed will be key here

Everything leans towards a Spence Jr. victory for obvious reasons but I can't help but really look forward to this one regardless. Great to see Garcia daring to be great despite being the much smaller man/leaping up two weight classes, brilliant fighter but this is a mammoth ask. Would love to see him shock the world mind! :bag:

I’m a massive fan of Garcia, but I just can’t see how he wins this. I know people keep saying he must have ‘seen something’ in Spence which he might well have done, but even if he has I think he’s bitten off more than he can chew here.

Whilst I’m very grateful that ITV are showing this, it’s a shame they can’t put it on ITV1 instead of hidden away on ITV4. The only things on ITV1 during the show are one of those late-night roulette programmes, a repeat of a British wrestling show, and then that weird teletext style Nightscreen. Surely it’d be better to stick the fight on the main ITV channel in HD for everyone?

What difference would it possibly make do you think mate?

ITV1 or ITV4 for something in the middle of the night makes no difference as far as I can tell. Average guy is not flicking through looking for something to watch during the night. You'd only watch it or find it if you were looking for it in particular whether ITV1 or ITV4 at that time.

I dunno really, I suppose it would just indicate more of a commitment to the sport by putting the fight on their flagship channel, especially when it’s not really showing anything else of note.

And speaking selfishly, it would mean I would be able to watch in HD, as only Sky apparently carries ITV4 HD.

Maybe Mikey Garcia and Errol Spence Jr. won’t be as far apart in weight late Saturday night as most everyone expects.

Garcia weighed 152 pounds Saturday morning at the IBF’s second-day weigh-in, just three-plus pounds less than Spence, who weighed 155.5 pounds. The IBF’s rule for title fights it sanctions prohibits champions and challengers from adding more than 10 pounds above the weight limit for a given division.

Neither Spence nor Garcia were allowed to weigh more than 157 pounds Saturday morning.

Frickin fantastic Mikey Garcia has the cojones to step up and take on a bad ass like Spence, 2 weights up no less. Fans should be praising the heavens 2 of the best are actually willing to fight for a feckin change, unlike all those “superstars” carefully avoiding each other.

And free on ITV - wow !

Mikey is in deep obviously, but it’s gonna be fantastic to see a fighter as good as this guy reaching for another level

I’d be interested to know too - no chance am I staying up, but considering setting an alarm for the main event instead of watching it all in the morning.
