If MMA fights are like that. I'd rather go back to watching paint dry.
I agree. I was bored senseless. they hardly threw anything. I thought the Yank won it as well but the judges gave it wide to Till.

No worse than Joshua v Parker, and that for the unified world title...

AJ. v Parker was poor, but that fight yesterday was worse. Plus I felt uncomfortable with the commentators calling Thompson “Wonderboy”

His stand up tall, block punches with his face approach is probably not the way to go!

Is there any other sport where participants say they can whoop other sportsmen as often as MMA fighters do?

I don't remember Ian Rush saying he could be the star player for Leeds Rhinos or Jonah Lomu saying he'd beat Linford Christie at the 100m or Mike Tyson saying he'd break the world record for bobsledding.

Emil Heskey would struggle to live with Tim Henman in a tennis match, but nobody thinks this makes Henman more impressive.

On the whole mma fighters of this era are quite respectful tbh, there's always a few in every sport

In mma's early days, all that spiked mohawk s**t & oddball characters,a lot of them were an insecure s**t talking bunch, all a bit like a parody at one point, but in general mma fighters are respectful, till just happens to let his mouth run away with him & talk nonsense

I respect till as he's got the heart to get in there but he's a bit of a weight bully & loves to let his mouth run away with him

I remember when I as a kid when Tyson was champ, sparking everyone out and the usual suspects were getting 5 mill for 30 seconds work!
Everyone was saying they would get in the ring with him for that amount money.
What people fail to realise is that if an ordinary bloke got in the ring with a heavyweight hard hitter, they would prob die or have permanent damage.
If Till had a boxing match with Joshua, he would get hurt permanent.

They do it a bit now with Joshua. Hear things like ‘£x million for a few rounds work, I’d do that no problem’

Nah, it’s not a few rounds work. It’s usually 15+ years of sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears plus lots of talent that gets them the chance to earn such paydays!

He was probably just trying to promote himself & get his name out there, stir up a bit of a talking point

He did that,in a very very backward way

I wouldlnt entertain such s**t,but I can see why he done it

You'll get people wanting to watch his fights whether to see him lose or win after a comment like that

Very underwhelming fighter as a whole though

I had that argument many times,a rampant Tyson wanting to smash your nose into your brain, they would all shat themselves in the dressing room,as i would haha

Most mma fans attribute his early success down to his excessive weight cutting giving him a significant size advantage, but he's just lost two in a row & stopped in both. God knows what AJ would have done to him.

i dont know till

but interesting how losses to mma practioners are treated like proof mma fighters would lose to boxers who cant do anything but punch

even just a takedown or kick threat changes the dynamic so much. if your facing a vastly better grappler or kicker suddenly getting in punching range and throwing shots becomes a lot more risky.

mma fighters also have to watch out for all sorts of different weapons vs other mma fighters, which can draw attention away from punches. they dont vs boxers. so even an mma fighter getting kod by punches from another mma fighter is a different thing

i remember when holm iced rousey and it was treated as a victory for boxing, even though holm started in kickboxing and won via by far her biggest weapon...her foot to the head

I'm not sure who here said that :maybe:

I think people are more referring to the 70ib weight advantage AJ would have, and in in regards to till being able to "beat him in a fight" surely that just begs the question what type of fight?

Till seems like a schoolboy, every interview I have seen he goes on about being "hard" and wanting to be the "hardest"

Never understood the hype around Till, big strong lad who hits hard and gobs off. These guys must be ten a penny around the world. I am guessing White wanted a big name British fighter to headline UK cards for the next couple years.

He looked mediocre vs Thompson, out of his depth vs Woodley and although he started well vs Masvidal, he became predictable and started walking onto punches, with obvious consequences.

Sticking with Joshua, the thing is that very few of the big active UFC guys are noted grapplers. Ngannou; Lewis; Overeem... I'd pick AJ over those. Miocic?

While Cormier's a lot shorter, and Bones a lot lighter.

just FYI Overeem had about 6 wins by submission (guillotine) before 2005 was even finished. he finished the likes of belfort and Vovchanchin by guillotine.

I still think there is a lot to come from Till - but he needs to seriously move up to 185lb - that cut is really diminishing his ability to take a shot

You get emotionally invested with these fighters and when they loose it is a come down!
