Michael “Mick” Conlan is set to paint the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden green on St. Patrick’s Day for a third consecutive year. The Belfast native, two-time Irish Olympian, and top featherweight prospect packed the Hulu Theater to the rafters in 2017 and 2018 and will return on Sunday, March 17 to face the battle-tested Ruben Garcia Hernandez in the 10-round main event.

Conlan-Hernandez will begin following the conclusion of the annual NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade.



In the co-feature, former junior featherweight world champion Jessie Magdaleno will face former junior lightweight world title challenger Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz in a 10-round featherweight clash. And, in a crossroads welterweight bout, Brooklyn native and former world champion Luis Collazo will take on Samuel Vargas in a 10-rounder.

The guy has a great record at 24-3-2, so on the surface it's a step up but on a closer look he seems to be something of a bottom-feeder with lots of weak opponents. Every good fighter he faced he lost to convincingly and his last fight was a draw with a total scrub:

Seven months removed from his first career loss, Paddy Barnes hoped to catch the luck of the Irish on the undercard of a St. Patrick’s Day card at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theatre in New York City.

The two-time Bronze medalist and three-time Olympian from Ireland instead found himself in an all-out war turned disastrous in a split decision loss to Oscar Mojica.

All three judges had the bout scored 58-56, two for Mojica and one for Barnes in the ESPN-televised opener.

Josue Vargas continues to grow in the pro ranks, perhaps no more so than in between rounds during his unanimous decision win over Adriano Ramirez (10-3, 6KOs) in their eight-round super lightweight bout.

Scores of 80-72 across the board all landed in favor of the Bronx-based Vargas (13-1, 8KOs), whose desire to play to the crowd eventually gave way to his corner’s insistence to remain disciplined.

John Bauza remained perfect with a six-round decision win over Ricardo Maldonado in a bout that probably didn’t have any business going the distance.

Scores were 60-54 across the board for Bauza (12-0, 5KOs), a 20-year old from just across the Hudson River in North Bergen, New Jersey by way of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.

The traffic was all one way, to the point of Maldonado (8-9-1, 1KOs) suffering an unnecessary battering down the stretch. A hard conversation took place in his corner whether to allow Washington state journeyman to come out for the 6th and final round. He was so permitted, with Bauza putting an exclamation point on a terrific performance.

Russia’s Vladimir Nikitin kept his unbeaten record intact, along with long-term plans for a collision with 2016 Rio Olympics rival Michael Conlan with a hard-fought six-round decision over Juan Tapia in their ESPN+ preliminary bout Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theatre in New York City.

Judge Alan Rubenstein’s score of 57-57 was overruled by matching cards of 59-55 from Mark Consentino and Kevin Morgan in favor of Nikitin, a 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist.

Ireland’s Lee Reeves (3-0, 2KOs) celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a four-round decision over Edward Torres in their super lightweight heat. Scores were 40-36 across the board for the Limerick southpaw, who was forced to go the distance for the first time as a pro.

Joseph Adorno (12-0, 10KOs) endured a stiff challenge from Mexico’s Victor Rosas (10-9) in taking a six-round unanimous decision. Scores were 58-54 across the board for Adorno, a rising super featherweight prospect from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The Nuyorican southpaw instead made the most of his consolation prize, although perhaps getting far more than he bargained for with Canada’s Samuel Vargas. Collazo survived a stiff challenge to earn a split decision in their ESPN-televised co-feature Sunday evening at MSG’s Hulu Theatre in New York City.

Vargas managed a 96-94 nod on one card, overruled by scores of 96-94 and 98-92 for Collazo in the fast-paced welterweight bout.

Brooklyn-bred Collazo—fighting for the first time since a 10-round win over Bryant Perrella last August at Long Island’s revamped Nassau Coliseum—began the contest at a deliberate pace, smartly boxing and keeping Vargas at bay for much of the opening round.
