Pacquiao would have struggled to beat Spence when he was in his 20s and early 30s; he'd get nowhere near The Truth at 41 years old.

It's a real shame that a talent like Spence has to keep entertaining these pointless fights that no-one was clamouring before they were announced or mooted, when he is competing in one of the best era of welterweights since the late 1980s.

Spence will get little credit for beating up an aged Pacquiao and I just don't get why this has even come up.
It's a valid fight for Spence for at least 4 reasons:

* Pac is still a global legend, even in the waning years of his career. He's a guaranteed Hall-of-Famer.

* Pac has looked sharp in clearcut recent wins over Matthysse & Broner. He's better-known among casual fans than Garcia and will help Errol get more name recognition among casuals/general sports fans than any other current boxer. (Even Crawford is not as well-known among casuals as Pac)

* Pac is still a big enough live attraction that he & Spence could fill close to 60,000 seats, making it the biggest live crowd in US boxing in 40+ years (Ali-Spinks II did 63,000+ in New Orleans Superdome in 1978).

* At age 40 Pac will not be around as far into the future as Spence's more competitive matchups: Crawford (31), Thurman (30), Porter (31), Ugas (32), Danny G (30) & all the welter prospects even younger than them.

Spence would annihilate Pac now. Maybe retire him at last.

I can see that. Calling out a 40+ y/o smaller guy isn't exactly what fandom wants.
Spence has been trying to fight Porter and Thurman for a while now. We all know right now the Crawford fight is really hard to make due to promotional issues. So who should he call out? He said if Manny passed, he'd fight Porter, if Porter was interested. Should he keep calling out Porter/Thurman, have them pass, then have to face the likes of Ocampo/Bundu level guys to stay busy?

Pac would be a nice payday for him and establish his name to the general public some. Pac isn't what he was, but is still a top 5/6 guy at 147.

When the time comes that Pac wants to retire with one more fight, he'll take on a Spence for the dough.

Pac will engage more, than Garcia, so he will leave more openings for Spence, but Spence probably won't stop Pac, he'll just outbox him wide.

I think Spence stops anyone who is willing to trade with him.

If Pacquiao let's his hands go in an honest attempt to win the fight, then Spence will knock him out within 10.

If Pac finds that the fire is far too hot, he'll use his footwork to stay out of major trouble and lose a lopsided decision.

I didn't think he did. I thought he was talking the way he always talks. (Which is too bad, as I agree he shouldn't take fights like this now.)

Same here.

I'm worried that if the sums are tempting enough Manny will sign up thinking he can't do worse than Garcia. And he won't, but that's no good to us who want the brilliant quicksilver Pacquiao back. Alas, he's long gone.

Manny v Khan would be more like it, and Amir will sign up just like that once he's defeated Crawford, (along with fixing Brexit, and reversing Global Warming). After Garcia v Spence chess match I'm actually looking forward to Crawford Khan.

Didn't he also accept Thurman's in-ring challenge after the Lopez fight?

Still waiting for him to sign a contract to face one of the division's top guns.

I don't think that he will.

The closest that he will come might be the laid-back Danny Garcia.

Spence is too big and strong for Manny at this point. Also the kid showed more skills against Garcia how is a solid boxer overall, a bit slow.
And smells of easy money for Spence, Manny and PBC so could happen.

Crawford is still the main guy in 147. Would rather see him and Spence fight it out. That is why better matchup overall. But then again Manny brings in more money.

Pac would be a great payday, probably the best payday Spence could get right now. Even Crawford doesnt have the name recognition with casual fans that Bud does.

I watched Spence-Garcia at a local grill with no cover charge and there were loads of casual fans/general sports fans there to watch the PPV who knew little or nothing about Spence or Mikey. When Spence called out Pac post-fight there were quite a few of them who were very vocal about their thinking that Pacquaio would beat Spence, even now!!

One of them was even convinced that Pac would KO Spence!! I was able to talk some sense into him after pointing out Pac has only one KO in his past 15 bouts!!

Casuals and wannabe fight fans like them are the folks Spence will get on his bandwagon by beating Pac, even at age 40+!!
