Deontay Wilder insists he “loves” being a free agent, hence why he is reportedly set to reject a $100m+ deal from US broadcaster DAZN.

“So many people try to dictate my career and tell me, ‘I should do this, I should do that, I shouldn’t do this, I shouldn’t do that’,” Wilder said.

“$12.5m is laughable now, $15m is laughable. All this stuff I was supposed to have done, I didn’t do none of that and now look at my career.

“I’m betting on myself and you can’t go wrong with yourself.

“I love being a free agent, I love being able to move about doing what I do and we’ll see what the future holds.”

He's taken a lot of criticism, some of it from myself for his choice of opponents over the years. But its hard to argue with success. He still hasn't lost somehow. Kind of like Rocky Marciano, they look like they're about to lose -- but they don't.

Prior to his bout against Tyson Fury, Wilder’s average purse per wold championship bout equated to less than $1.39m per contest. It’s actually $1.28m if we excluded from the calculation the anomalously high purse he received for the Luis Ortiz fight.

Here’s a list of Wilders’ purses he received for all of his title fights:

• Gerald Washington = $900K
• Chris Arreola = $1.4m
• Artur Szpilka = $1.5m
• Johann Duhaupas = $1.4m
• Eric Molina = $1.4m
• Bermane Stiverne I = $1m
• Bermane Stiverne II = $1.4m
• Luis Ortiz = $2.1m
• Tyson Fury = ~$10m ($4m guarantee, plus ~$6m PPV in revenue)

AJ will be earning roughly $11 million more to face Jarrell Miller (based on Joshua receiving an alleged $32m payday) than the combined total purses that Wilder has earned for all nine-world title fights he’s ever competed in.

We know or certain that Wilder has turned down offers from ESPN and DAZN, but he somehow wants to remain a free agent. I’m not entirely sure I can understand the logic he’s used to justify this stance, but I suspect there’s more to this than Deontay is willing to disclose.

Hasn’t the offer been corroborated by representatives from both sides of the negotiating table (i.e. Deontay Wilder, Shelly Finkel, Eddie Hearn, John Skipper, as well as several reputable media outlets/journalists)?

I agree. We don't know if he has rejected the deal, and if he has, the reasons why. I'm hearing ESPN rumors now.

I dont think it is necessarily rejected, just a point in the negotiations. It took GGG like 5 months to come to a deal and they didn't go public with the terms every other day.

Rob3_142 wrote: 15 Mar 2019, 16:26 I don't think Candy's assumptions are based on these latest claims alone. I think here we're talking about a continuous trend since he became WBC champion. It's a little perplexing that Wilder never really felt encouraged to pursue the other belts when they belonged to Klitschko, or even when they were distributed as they were after Fury dropped off the radar.

Whatever is happening, the absolute least he should be doing if he has any ambitions to have a unification with Joshua is to just sit round a table with Joshua's people and discuss.

He is 33, there is no time for dragging feet.
Again, we'll know more on Tuesday. The guy fought Ortiz (say what you will) and Fury this past year. AJ and Wilder are both to blame for not fighting each other. Why you bring Wlad into this is beyond me. I'm less of a Wilder fan than I used to be (by far), but I really can't stand this kind of anti-Wilder/AJ is the messiah crap.
Wilder certainly stepped his game up in the last 12 months, but was very close to being beaten by both Ortiz and Fury. He got the W (or draw) so credit where it is due. But these were still very tactical picks, whilst he avoids the most obvious choice.

The reason why I am mentioning Wlad, was because he was the holder of the other belts. When Wilder won the WBC title in January 2015, Klitschko was the IBF, WBO and WBA champion. Granted, Klitschko fought and lost to Fury in November the same year, but even when Fury went off the rails and the belts distributed as they were, there was absolutely no demonstrated intention by Wilder to try win any of them belts. Not even when Charles Martin was the IBF champion.

Joshua has persistently been the financial A-side in his career, even when he held no belts. He will be the A-side in every match up in the current HW scene. As EO has so eloquently stated, the earning potential of Wilder against other none names is pretty low. Wilder believes he has equal worth to Joshua. This is empirically untrue. He will likely double or triple what he earned against Fury, but that will not be 50% of the pot.

It's easy to not fight someone. Just price yourself out, just as Joshua did when offering Whyte.

Shock the world.

The only thing that would shock me if announcing his next fight against Joshua, Fury, or he's retiring.

Anything else will be the usual b*ll sh*t.

These quotes demonstrate how much of an idiot this guy is. Look at your career mate. You could have been an all time great. Instead, your legacy will be stealing a draw of Tyson Fury, whilst earning a fraction of your earning potential. Wilder's handlers have wasted this guys career. 41 fights in, and he's fought three top 10 fighters.

I'm guna be straight here, I like Wilder. He's an unbelievable athlete, very entertaining, and a much better draw than his popularity supposes. It just frustrates the life out of me that he will end his career in a few years time leaving his best fights behind. I reckon he's got 5-6 fights left in his prime. Why would you waste those last few fights on bums?

I think he will announce a Breazeale ppv next on showtime, that seems obvious. The fight after that when Fury and Joshua are free is what we want to hear about. By staying a free agent he can potentially fight both men on different networks.

Nothing "shocking" about Wilder's announcement, apart from rejecting DAZN's $100m offer:

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will defend his title May 18 at Barclays Center against mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale.

The fight comes two weeks before Anthony Joshua takes on Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden. Joshua holds the other significant heavyweight belts.

Wilder-Breazeale will be televised by Showtime and not on pay-per-view. Wilder turned down a lucrative offer from streaming service DAZN to show this fight and several more.

DAZN offered Wilder two versions of a deal from which he could pick, two sources with knowledge of the offers told ESPN.

One deal, the sources said, was for three fights worth $100 million. The first fight would have been a $20 million payday to fight Breazeale this spring, which is way over the market value for that level fight. Wilder was guaranteed $10 million to fight Fury in their exciting draw on Showtime PPV on Dec. 1. The second fight would have been for $40 million to fight Joshua in the fall for the undisputed title with the third fight being an immediate rematch with Joshua for another $40 million -- even if Wilder, in the worst-case scenario, had gotten knocked out, even in the first round, of the first fight by Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs), 29, of England.

The second version of the offer, one of the sources said, would have paid Wilder $20 million to fight Breazeale, $40 million for the Joshua fight, a $20 million fight against another opponent to be determined followed by another $40 million for a rematch with Joshua in the fourth fight.

In addition, one of the sources said the first fight with Joshua was guaranteed to be in the United States with DAZN willing to have the second fight in Joshua's native United Kingdom, even though the time zone would put a live stream of the fight on in the late afternoon instead of closer to the preferred time of 11:30 p.m. ET, which is when most major fights go off for U.S. broadcasts.

Wilder Rejects DAZN deal to fight Klitchko late 2019

Post by oogiebe »

Wilder rejected the DAZN deal, but:

WBC world heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, won't be joining the DAZN streaming platform and has instead re-upped with Showtime network, beginning with his Dominic Breazeale showdown on May 18 from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

If Wilder successfully defends his title, the plan is to have “The Bronze Bomber” face off against former world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, who hasn’t competed since falling to Anthony Joshua in late 2017.

That’s according to our friends at Fight Sports, who indicate the Wilder-Klitschko pairing could take place later this year.

While the deal may prove to be the most lucrative for Wilder, fans are getting the short end of stick. No DAZN means no fights against Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury, and that makes me sad.

I'd say that is pretty shocking.

ESPN:

Finkel told ESPN they are discussing a three-fight deal with Showtime. While he declined to give the value, he said Wilder would "make as much or more than he would have made under the DAZN deal" and that is without a fight against Joshua. Finkel also said that if the Showtime deal is finalized it wouldn't prevent a Joshua fight or Fury rematch on other platforms.

"Deontay is not locked into anyone because he would have outs [in the deal]," said Finkel, adding that he is also still talking to Fury management company MTK Global about a possible Fury rematch later this year.

All this means we fight fans have to do what we've been doing. Waiting...

Fvcking disgrace to the fighters of yesteryear, guys like Wilder should never be mentioned in the same breath as Ali, Tyson, Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Ward etc, guys who wanted to fight the best

His motives are baffling

As for Finkel boasting that Wilder can make more without fighting Joshua

Disgusts me
