FRANK MORRIS QUERY

Post by chebba »

I am desperately hoping someone may be able to assist me in a brick wall in my genealogy!

I am trying to find out more about my Great Uncle Frank Morris, who was born in Ruabon, near Wrexham, in 1903. He worked as a miner before emigrating to Montreal, Canada in the early/mid 1920's. There is a very strong family story that he killed one of his opponents, in that the man died as a result of his match injuries. We do not know if this occurred in the UK, probably fairly local to Ruabon and Wrexham, or Canada - his brother in Montreal had 2 barns and we know he rented one out as an illegal alcohol still and was a puppy farmer in the other, so anything is possible and it could be that he profited from his younger brother being in illegal matches and betting! We don't know if it was a legal match, whether it was bare-knuckle or otherwise. We don't even know if it was actually a regulated match or if it was a result of a brawl, although it seems that he certainly was some sort of boxer, be it hobbyist or registered amateur.

I've tried to find newspaper articles, but nothing has been found, no court proceedings either, although it may be that I simply haven't landed on them yet.

Thank you for reading this. I do hope someone will be able to come up with something.
