Aside from boxing does he have any input at all in snooker and darts? I’ve never seen him at any events for those “sports”.

We talk about British boxing booming but we only have Edwards, Yafai, Warrington, Callum Smith and Joshua with a world title and challengers being shipped as clear underdogs. Maybe the boom is on a hiatusRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 19:19Yeh Sky have the DAZN cards here but it’s PST midnight we don’t get to enjoy the prime time boxing anymore.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 17:33I think the start of the year has been disappointing with regards to U.K. shows but I personally am enjoying the US based DAZN shows.
If someone was paying for Skysports just for the boxing then I’d agree it’s not value for money but the majority of people who subscribe to Sky Sports do so for more than one sport.
Same with BT Sports. I think the boxing coverage on BT this year has been crap but I love the UFC so will keep paying for it.
This last weekend was the first World title headliner we’ve had in a while. And it was a Flyweight bout. Edwards is a no name.. it was at the Copper Box. A venue mostly FW used.

My understanding is that the US/overseas shows should be in addition to the U.K. shows. If that’s not the case and they’re a replacement for U.K. shows then that would be disappointing.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 19:19Yeh Sky have the DAZN cards here but it’s PST midnight we don’t get to enjoy the prime time boxing anymore.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2019, 17:33I think the start of the year has been disappointing with regards to U.K. shows but I personally am enjoying the US based DAZN shows.

I’ve enjoyed most of the US shows. Record it, get up at 7.30/8am and watch it for 3 hours with a pot coffee - keeps me happy anyway!
I reasonably enjoyed the card at the weekend (I preferred it to the Cheeseman show anyway). The Ritson fight was good, 2 albeit one sided British title fights and Edwards boxed well in the main event. For a no-name they seemed to have a decent crowd in there. Why’s it an issue if it’s at the Copper Box? Not every show is going to be 10k plus crowds. Again, going back 10 years there were several shows a year on Sky that were in leisure centres with, on some shows, not even 1,000 people there.
Re: Hearn: Sky need to Increase Rights Fees
Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. He intimated that whilst Sky have been great partners to Matchroom the reverse was true too and that Matchroom were more valuable to Sky then Sky were to them. He sounded quite confident of that and also the tone suggested he was tired of people suggesting he was lucky to have the Sky contract. Hearn believes in the streaming model and its only a matter of time before DAZN launch in the UK and Hearn follows them. Do Matchroom have equity in DAZN? Is Hearn on the board etc??

Interesting. I think certainly until fairly recently Matchroom/Eddie WERE incredibly lucky to have the Sky contract, but to be fair to Eddie he took the opportunity and made the most of it, and has perhaps outgrown Sky now with the finances available via the US market and PPV in the UK with DAZN. I think Sky may live to regret the exclusivity contract, albeit they themselves have made a bomb from it over the past 6 years or so.dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. I am interested to see how long DAZN are around. I doubt they can ever make a return. All the money they are paying out yet i doubt their subscribers are high.dave_smith wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:37Will Sky want to deal with MTK with all the alleged shadiness / baggage that comes with them?
Ps that anti MTK account is brutal on twitter.
Re: Hearn: Sky need to Increase Rights Fees
I cannot see Sky working with a promoter who will struggle to get "title fights" and how many belts will MTK need to make up.
I think Matchroom are in a position to "jump" ship - Darts is getting more and more coverage on ITV - I think it is a ratings winner. Also more Snooker is on ITV suggesting a decent relationship with the other sports.
My worry for Hearn is, is he placing his eggs in one basket. I'm not convinced the DAZN model is sustainable - it stinks of Setanta. The money they are paying and the deals they are making are ridiculous. Golovkin will be almost 40 by the end of his contract - he's already showing clear sign of being worn.
It was my insipration for my "are promoters dropping the ball" thread - I cannot see how EH is making money on these US bills in small arena's - just the money he is paying his fighters.

x 2 on Dazn. Those deals are ridiculous and the rumoured - lets get fighters on as an executor - how many executors do they want! It cannot be sustainable.Glass Joe wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 08:17I am interested to see how long DAZN are around. I doubt they can ever make a return. Dazn is not going to be profitable in the States off of boxing. Sorry y'all are enduring what happened here a few decades back. Eddie is an excellent promoter but his ego is out of whack if he thinks he can get Americans to care about boxing.

The volume of snooker and darts tournaments have increased massively in the last 5 or so years so other stations like ITV/Quest/even the BBC have got in on Darts and several other channels also have the Snooker. Plus I think Sky have a fairly lengthy contract for the big darts tournaments as do BBC for the snooker.
Barry is extremely shrewd and won’t lump everything on DAZN in case it doesn’t work.
I interpreted Eddie’s interview as more of statement of facts - if Sky Sports want bigger Saturday fight nights then they’ll need to pay more. If not then it’s shows like Saturday/this coming Saturday. I can’t see Eddie taking the U.K. boxing elsewhere, at least not in the next 4-5 years. I’m sure it will help his next negotiation with Sky though if/when it comes time for a contract renewal.
Re: Hearn: Sky need to Increase Rights Fees
In terms of the DAZ package, boxing included, it is Barry not Eddie in control. When it comes to the pound note Barry knows what he is doing and Eddie isn't far behind. Streaming services like NetFlix are the way forward.Glass Joe wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 08:17I am interested to see how long DAZN are around. I doubt they can ever make a return. MTK, despite rumours about them are leaping forward, they already have Fury and Saunders and will continue to snap up fighters, they already have a TV deal too. These rumours clearly have not hurt them, money talks.
And they have an existing relationship with Macklin.

Matchroom could create an app, stick on mobile, ipad, PC, consoles - even TVs like Samsung, LG etc.dbf wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 07:05 Hearn said something quite telling in an interview recently. Then leave sky.
You don't need a cable / satellite box nowadays to consume content. As long as you have internet, you are laughing.
At the end of the day, a lot of people who stream illegally would buy the genuine article if it was reasonably priced and not hidden behind an annual subscription agreement.

no Fast Eddie is MatchRoom Boxing only. Barry still manages the rest and says he'll carry on working 'til he drops down dead.ShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 02:51Aside from boxing does he have any input at all in snooker and darts? I’ve never seen him at any events for those “sports”.

An official stream in HD with no buffering, pop-ups or crashing at the main event is worth a couple of quid of any serious fan's money.

All I know is, constant & unnecessary PPVs are definitely very damaging for the sport. I’ve definitely lost interest over the last couple of years if I’m honest - I just don’t have the money or inclination to buy Sky Sports plus BT Sports plus Sky PPV plus BT PPV plus ITV PPV. Maybe I’m just a casual now
