Joe Bugner had everything, and did sod all really,i know danny got his limitations, but the guy got a heart, quiet, gentle guy, fairytails do come true,it would only take 1 punch ,perhaps danny should throw the skelton fight,or put up an awful desplay,THEN he could well be given his title chanceas a walkover,it only takes 1 punch.
Bugner did a darn sight more than Danny has or is likely to do... I can't see Williams going 12 rounds with Joe Frazier, Ali, Lyle etc....tigerpomfret wrote:Joe Bugner had everything, and did sod all really,i know danny got his limitations, but the guy got a heart, quiet, gentle guy, fairytails do come true,it would only take 1 punch ,perhaps danny should throw the skelton fight,or put up an awful desplay,THEN he could well be given his title chanceas a walkover,it only takes 1 punch.

Who can you rate at Euro level past him except for Krasniqi and Samil Sam since he beat him?nickd wrote:I keep saying it, but Williams is just not that good. He is way overrated by British boxing fans. The guy is a domestic level Heavyweight who has failed at European and World level.
Virchis couldn't even beat Sprott convincingly yet is EBU mandatory now.
Well his record doesn't lie and he has never won the European title he was hammered in 6 rounds by Sam. Until he beats someone at that level then he is not European title standard simple as that as far as I am concerned. Never mind ifs and buts he has to beat the top European guys to be considered in that class and that is something he has never done.Max Molyneux wrote:Who can you rate at Euro level past him except for Krasniqi and Samil Sam since he beat him?nickd wrote:I keep saying it, but Williams is just not that good. Seriously out of the EBU rating Krasniqi and Samil Sam can only be rated past him.

Akinwande would probably beat Williams, even at his age.
That's a weak argument, Benn and Eubank were world title holders so obviously were European level.
Williams is European level, but not quite ever the best in Europe. There's the difference.
Eubank and Benn proved they were world class operators.

Stick up for Williams all you like guys but fact is he has won a British title and nothing more than that. Yes he beat Tyson but even McBride managed to do that although granted not as emphatically as Williams did but McBride was stopped by Michael Murray! Thats area title level!
Williams is a good domestic operator and nothing more than that.

McCall's chin is in a class of it's own, I don't think I ever saw a heavyweight who could take a punch like McCall, not in my lifetime. Mercer was pretty close, but McCall never even blinked when Lewis was assaulting him with the big guns.Max Molyneux wrote:What about Mc Call when he was suffering and on drugs though?
Both have good chins and can punch.
I don't see what your problem with Danny is, he's aiming for higher things than the Euro title... the title itself doesn't mean much now, I'm very pleased to see the likes of Sprott, Skelton and Williams fighting for the British title and bringing some life back to the domestic scene... give Danny some credit, he's been in some decent fights and brought interest back to the heavies here... there have actually been articles in the dailys!. If he beats Skelton again he deserves a shot at one of the title holders, why not, ....none of the title holders are so good that Danny hasn't got a chance...
I dont have a problem with him, I just dont think he's as good as a lot of people like to make out. I don't think he's remotely world class. Fair play to him for striving for world titles but someone even suggested he might beat Valuev I really dont see that happening and Valuev isn't particularly great. Good luck to Williams I am just realistic about his limitations.silkov wrote:I don't see what your problem with Danny is, he's aiming for higher things than the Euro title... the title itself doesn't mean much now, I'm very pleased to see the likes of Sprott, Skelton and Williams fighting for the British title and bringing some life back to the domestic scene... give Danny some credit, he's been in some decent fights and brought interest back to the heavies here... there have actually been articles in the dailys!. Valuev doesn't have a lot of skill but Williams already showed against Klitschko he has no idea how to fight a guy much bigger than him simply plodding forward eating jabs and straight rights. Granted Valuev is not as good as Klitschko but he's even bigger. If it ever happens I see Williams losing a wide decision. He's just too immobile to beat a guy that big, Donald did well against Valuev using speed and mobility, there are hippos more mobile than Williams!Max Molyneux wrote:Danny's more skilled than Valuev.
Shifts enough weight and Valuev will lose but would probably get robbed on the cards like Ruiz and Donald.
As I said before good luck to him but I think Valuev beats him handily.
the poster who mentioned joe bugner was correct. he did have plenty going for him but just didnt produce when it was really needed. excellent european champ when that crown was something worth fighting for, but the level of opposition wasnt great in europe at that time, so its no surprise that bugner ruled like a king.
SILKOV i wouldnt bug you so much if you actually read peoples posts accurately before replying to them. youve done it with me and now youre doing it with other posters. i ask you, please read the posts or it just looks like you are in here for a petty argument

Who am I arguing with?... why don't you try coming on here with some serious boxing views and arguments rather than just talking crap to me all the time and following me around like some stray dog... have you no shame...harrygreb wrote:the poster who mentioned joe bugner was correct. he did have plenty going for him but just didnt produce when it was really needed. excellent european champ when that crown was something worth fighting for, but the level of opposition wasnt great in europe at that time, so its no surprise that bugner ruled like a king.

He's slower than Vitali and wouldn't throw enough combinations to wobble Williams like Vitali did.
Plus Danny hits harder than the guys Valuev fought.
Combinations? Klitschko was just throwing single shots and 1-2s all night.Max Molyneux wrote:Vitali was far better than Valuev.nickd wrote:Valuev doesn't have a lot of skill but Williams already showed against Klitschko he has no idea how to fight a guy much bigger than him simply plodding forward eating jabs and straight rights. You're clutching at straws, Valuev at least has a win at world level over Ruiz whether you agreed with the decision or not. Williams has not beaten anyone close to Ruiz's level. And dont say Tyson.
