The Morrison Sons

Post by HeavyHitters »

I'm just curious as to what has happened with Tommy "The Duke" Morrison boys in the heavyweight division, Trey Lippe and James McKenzie Morrison? Last time either one fought was mid 2019. Neither one has really stepped it up in competition, but you would think with all the potential money that can be made in the heavyweight division, they would be anxious to try and cash in on some of it. You can't make any money by not fighting.

Trey Lippe ( 15-0-0 / 15 KO's ) 29 years old

James McKenzie Morrison ( 14-0-2 / 12 KO's ) 28 years old

Heavyweights with unbeaten records can always make 'some' money.

I guess you could quote another famous Morrison, Jim Morrison of The Doors with the song "Waiting For The Suns". :OhYes:

They seem fine being local heroes. Neither has the size to compete at top level, but they can both hit.

"Lippe-Morrison set to resume training in LA

Trey Lippe-Morrison to return to LA for training after foot injury

By Jason Peake [email protected] Jan 12, 2019

With a foot problem now in the rearview mirror, Trey Lippe-Morrison of the Four State Franchise is set to resume training at Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles under the direction of Freddie Roach.

An undefeated heavyweight knockout artist from Vinita, Oklahoma, Lippe-Morrison (15-0, 15 KOs) had to be pulled off a November 16 Top Rank Boxing/ESPN card in Oklahoma City due to an infected plantar wart on his foot.

Lippe-Morrison didn’t require surgery but needed some time off for the foot ailment to heal.

According to Four State Franchise promoter Tony Holden, Lippe-Morrison is ready to resume his professional boxing training.

“Trey is getting on a plane (Friday) to go back to LA,” Holden said. “His health is perfect now. He’s healed up and ready to go. Trey’s going to get moved real fast now.”

According to boxrec.com, Lippe-Morrison is the 21st ranked American heavyweight.

Holden said he expects Lippe-Morrison to fight as early as March, although nothing is set in stone.

Holden added that he’d love to have Lippe-Morrison fight in Joplin at some point of 2019.

Only time will tell.

Trey has been plagued by injuries. I don't know about Kenzie.

I grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma, not far from where Tommy Morrison was from and where his sons live. Tommy is still a big name in the area and Trey and Kenzie are very popular on local shows. I’d be interested in seeing them step up the competition, but there’s nothing wrong with just being a hometown hero either.

Trey had some time-off due to an injury not so long ago, but now that happened again. That's a pity. I believe, if even Trey won't become a real top fighter, he still can pick some decent scalps. He has wasted too much time, although his age isn't critical. Another thing is, the guy had a tiny amateur career, so he's learning in the pros. No time should be wasted. Kenzie has less potential, but still it's interesting to see him stepping up too.

Trey can hit but from what little I've seen, I'd say Kenzie is less blessed with power, more of a boxer. Of course I defer to posters who are from the area and have actually seen them fight rather than watching you-tube videos.
