Anthony Fowler vs. Scott Fitzgerald - 30 March 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Super-Welterweight rivals Anthony Fowler and Scott Fitzgerald put their unbeaten records on the line when they meet in one of the most eagerly-anticipated domestic clashes of the year. Preston’s Fitzgerald says he is a “different level” to Fowler’s previous opponents but ‘The Machine’ has vowed to “go through” his former teammate to set-up a mouth-watering clash with British Champion Ted Cheeseman.

Fitzgerald was poor last time - can’t see anything other than Fowler win.

I'm hoping it was just an off night for him. If Fowler wants to face The Cheese ( assuming he gets past Garcia) later this year, he needs a good test prior.

No intrest in that fight now. I want to see the winner of this fight vs Garcia who really did bash up Cheeseman. Doubt it will happen tho as Garcia looked far to good.

Fowler would beat Garcia, he's miles better than the cheese.

If it's so easy let's see him take the fight next then.

I've heard that Fitzgerald has had chronic long term injury problems which may or may not have cleared up in the last year. I half suspect he is turning up for the payday, will take a beating and retire.

Heck, I'm still looking forward to this fight. And I hope the progression still goes that the winner faces Cheeseman, and then Garcia.
I also hope Fitz is injury free for Fowler. It seems like a good fight on paper. Whoever does come out on top and goes on to face Garcia will have earned it.

fowler has a huge frame for 154, and i like those body shots

why do ppl seem to slag him off or not rate him much? worlds bronze, commonwealth champ, olympian, and beaten up everyone as a pro. the last guy actually had a decent record as well

i think hes pretty solid, more of a physical presnce then the cheese and fitz

While I agree with you; Fowler has had a great Am career, and as a pro, he has done what was required with what has been put in front of him- I still have 3 questions about him that as yet are unanswered;
1, Engine
Can he maintain his output, movement, and defence past 8 and into championship rounds?
2, Power
And we taking cumulative here. His one punch is noted.
Can he break and stop the tougher guys, and/or do it late?
3, Chin
There are some big punchers on the step to world titles, can he take a real power punch?

I'm reserving my judgement on Fowler until after Cheeseman ( if it happens) and that might answer a couple of my questions.
For now, I like what I see.

Suprised so many looking past Scott here. Maybe heart ruling head here as he is a local lad but hoping Scott can pull it off.

Indeed Fowler has shaped a very good physique for 154. Here's an old picture;

Look at Fowler compared to Froch who competed 2 divisions above. I'm not saying Fowler is a bigger guy (as this looks like a loading stage hes at) but you can see how much bigger he used to be before chiseling down into the pro game, now a bull of a LMW.

I also think he has legit power and very good technique, impressive left hook & body shots.

I'd like to see Fowler vs Beefy.

I might be missing the point but Fowler does look the smallest of the lot - but yes he has the frame to go up to 160lb but the current dogs at 168lb are huge 6ft3+ (Smith, Ramirez)
