Why Carl Thompson vs Evander Holyfield didn't happen?

So: why these two great boxers, one born 1964, the other born 1962, with a very similar style, didn't meet for what could've been a spectacular bout?

Holy field was heavyweight champion when Carl was a domestic cruiser. Not to mention it would have been a slaughter

Thompson turned pro two years after Holyfield became champion. There is no sane timeline for this fight ever to have taken place. And as mentioned, at any time of the Cat's very fine career he would have been cannon fodder for Holyfield.
