Gennady Golovkin vs. Brandon Adams - June 8, 2019?
WBN has learned of a DAZN double-header in place for the return of former middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.
The big-punching Kazakh is on the verge of making his debut for the streaming service following the signing of a multi-million dollar contract.
‘GGG’ is set to warm up for a trilogy fight with Canelo Alvarez in September against recent ‘The Contender’ winner Brandon Adams.
Golovkin needs a victory following a draw, win and loss in his last three outings. That mixed bag came of the back of one of the most formidable runs in 160 pound history.
Opponent Adams, 29, saw off Tyrone Brunson, Ievgen Khytrov, Eric Walker and eventually Shane Mosley Jr. in the final of the popular TV series on Epic.
Prior to taking The Contender crown, Adams had suffered a loss to ex-world super-welterweight title challenger John Thompson.
Landing the Golovkin fight is a huge turnaround in Adams career over the past ten months.
Before entering The Contender, Adams had contemplated retirement and hadn’t fought in almost three years after the Thompson disappointment.
With many questioning how much Golovkin has left, the opportunity is massive for Adams to continue building his rejuvenated reputation.
DAZN will now televise a huge night of boxing, the details of which will be made public shortly.
In the co-feature, Demetrius Andrade is set to defend his WBO middleweight strap against Maciej Sulecki.
An accompanying undercard is likely to see many young prospects given the chance to shine. A usual feature on DAZN events of late.
In terms of venue, New York would be the current frontrunner. The likes of San Antonio, Las Vegas and Los Angeles cannot be ruled out at this stage.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Brandon Adams - June 8, 2019
I reported the likelihood of this bout several hours ago, based on numerous rumours being spread around the internet. I’m really disappointed the hear this news become a reality.
And as I’ve already previously articulated, I have no doubt that many of the same people who defended Sergey Kovalev's decision to face Vyacheslav Shabranskyy and Igor Mikhalkin, will also aggressively claim that Brandon Adams is a genuine world-beater that thoroughly deserves the opportunity to share the ring with GGG.
In my mind, this is just another Vanes Martirosyan type mismatch! It’s terrible matchmaking to say the least! FFS!
Why are they matching Gennady up with another natural 154lb-er? Surely GGG hasn’t reached the age where he needs “protecting”?

I always thought that a Martiroysan rematch was a realistic possibility.
But Brandon Adams offers about the same level of competition.
Talk about playing it safe.

Garbage card. Not at all surprising. Dazn boxing may break that company.

He's not even the best 160lb-er from Poland.

..I keep wondering how much clout the teams have in the decision-making process these days and who has the final word..

It's just dazn not understanding that Americans don't care about boxing. They're offering a great product for those of us that do. Problem isn't the cost anymore, it's the lack of fans.Deleted_Scenes wrote: ↑29 Mar 2019, 10:34 Golovkin fan here.

Gennady is self-managed and self-promoted. He makes all of his own decisions. I feel he did this because his former managers and promoters have exploited him in the past (as per him ceasing to use the services of Maximilian, Hermann, Universum and K2, with one or two of the situations resulting in him filing lawsuits).
If Golovkin agreed to face Adams, he did it for business reasons. I also seriously doubt DAZN would take any unnecessary risks with their newly-signed asset by matching him up against more talented opposition that didn’t attract more subscribers.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Brandon Adams - June 8, 2019
In all likelihood this fight will be shot down due to fan backlash.
Golovkin holds no belts anymore so he's not obliged to fight any serious contender.
But after a then unknown Munguia was cast aside, and the choice of Martiroysan was ridiculed, it's hard to fathom why Brandon Adams would be given a thumbs up by the public.

..self-managed and self-promoted or not, it surely has been coordinated with and endorsed by DAZN that happens to foot the bill. Just wondering whose idea it was to fight Adams in the first place...Enlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Mar 2019, 10:56Gennady is self-managed and self-promoted. He makes all of his own decisions. The poll should have options for which round GGG stops Adams.
I say early in the third.
Adams is little more than a club fighter and an easy mark for GGG.

I think dazn is thinking that their subscriptions are going to be impacted in a big way by these fights enough to make the big ones. No possible way.greg wrote: ↑29 Mar 2019, 11:30..self-managed and self-promoted or not, it surely has been coordinated with and endorsed by DAZN that happens to foot the bill. If Golovkin cannot take him out inside 4 rounds, then he is definitely past prime. Still, Adams will take savage beating in this, hopefully they pay him enough for that

Wondering if making 160 lbs limit is harder for GGG at age of 37 than before. I think it is
