Alexis Arguello vs Eder Jofre at Featherweight
Alexis Arguello vs Eder Jofre at Featherweight
Who would win this match up at Featherweight between the prime "Explosive Thin Man" Alexis Arguello and the Brazilian legend Eder Jofre who won the World Featherweight Title against Jose Legra? Would Arguello used his long left jab and body punches to set up a powerful right hand to stop Jofre in the later rounds or Jofre would use his speed and quickness to out-box Arguello behind his jabs and combinations to take a decision in 15 rounds?
Re: Alexis Arguello vs Eder Jofre at Featherweight
I'd take Arguello. I don't rate Jofre nearly as high at 126 as he was at bantam. At 118, Jofre was the best ever, imo.

Re: Alexis Arguello vs Eder Jofre at Featherweight
By the time the great Eder Jofre went up to fight at featherweight, he was not in his prime. His prime ended when he lost to the great Fighting Harada twice.
Alexis Arguello, the Explosive Thin Man, should win this one.

It would be the Arguello from the Olivares fight? If Jofre's dad had not died it's possible he'd have defended vs. Marcano and Olivares I'd assume. He'd have beaten both, even at 38 IMO. Arguello of 1974 I think Jofre edges him out too. Arguello would be very dangerous because of the power but Jofre isn't the type of fighter to get caught, hurt and stay hurt. He'd win enough rounds to hold off the challenge IMO.

I don't agree at featherweight. Arguello would beat him there.chrisjs1985 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 11:57 It would be the Arguello from the Olivares fight? Re: Alexis Arguello vs Eder Jofre at Featherweight
Since Jofre would be too elusive despite aging, Arguello may punished him by cutting off the ring and landing jabs and body punches for a decision win in 15 rounds.oogiebe wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 17:54I don't agree at featherweight. I believe so. The Explosive Thin Man's weaponry was too lethal for featherweight boxers. It was like if it wasn't a fair fight. Too tall and rangy plus powerful. I would have loved to see him fight Danny Lopez. Two of the top 20 greatest pound per pound punchers of all time.

I agree with you that Arguello would be too lethal for Jofre at featherweight. Jofre may out-boxed Legra to win the Featherweight, but Arguello was taller and younger than Legra as he more advantage in youth against Jofre at that stage.elmersalsa wrote: ↑03 Apr 2019, 13:30 I believe so.
