Adam Smith commentary

Post by BigDoofus »

After 2 or 3 rounds, he told us that Fowler's jab was dominating and began praising Dave Coldwell's gameplan.

It was already clear Fowler's jab was falling short and Fitzgerald's was more accurate.
We all know Hearn loves to send fighters to his "Northern Tony Sims", but there was nothing in the fight to suggest any gameplan was working.

Was Smith even watching the fight or was he reading notes from a pre-prepared plan?

I thought exactly the same. Any glimmer of success Fowler had and Smith was making a big deal of it.

Fitzgerald winning obviously wasn't in the script for Sky.

Smith has a tendency to gush over fighters he wants to win.

Watching Fowler get decked in that last round was almost as satisfying as watching Ryder clobber Cox last year.

At the end of the fight when he was saying I’ve got fowler by two and nelson has fowler by three I was thinking here we go another robbery, but thankfully fitzy got it , I don’t know why they were so set on fowler winning , Fitzy is a massive ticket seller and also a match room fighter , he has a lot more to his game and will do well for them .

The problem with Smith and it's the same with a lot of commentators in other sports as well is that there has to be some kind of background story and he feels like he has to tell us. Just shut up and commentate on the fight. "Listen to the crowd!" I can't because you won't shut the fornicate up!

It's the same for that clown who does the football on Sky, Martin Tyler, he just fills the commentary with incessant waffle and statistics like we're supposed to be impressed. Though his stats only seem to go back as far as 1992 :maybe:

I agree with the comments - I didn’t realise how good the likes of Reg Gutteridge and Garry Carpenter were until they were gone.

In a way commentators are a bit like like referees in that you don’t really notice the good ones.

It’s just that these dats everyone wants to be centre of attention

True

I don’t know where he came from or how he got the job, but whatever it is will keep him there for quite a while yet

Don’t worry with a bit of luck we’ll get DAZN over here and that’ll be the end of Sky :box:

I think them coming to the UK is almost a dead cert but I have some concerns. That Smith is seemingly not seeing this banana skin coming and acts unaware that Sky are about to be fcking up the arse hard by the ramrod hard DAZN leads me to worry that he is going to land a plum job with DAZN. If that is not the case, he is a total dick for allowing the wolf into the henhouse

His commentary and knowledge is okay.

Froch is not very good. Macklin is reasonably good but repeats himself over and over again. Bellew is capable and will continue to improve over the years. He is biased towards Scouser which lets him down but he is the cream of the current Sky crop.

Why can’t he just be the head of boxing. Does he need to commentate.

Did the previous head of boxing commentate too?

The team of Andy Clarke and Andy Lee are on a different level to the other Sky commentators.
