Dreamfight: TYSON vs MOORER
This would have been an interesting fight around 1996 or 1997. Who do you think would have prevailed?
Would Moorer be able to outbox Tyson as he had done against Holyfield a few years prior?
Or would Moorer get KTFOed like he did against Tua, Foreman and Holyfield in the rematch?
I'm not sure if Moorer's jaw would have held up against the early Tyson onslaught, but it would have been an intriguing fight in that era.

If a fantasy match-up between 2 retired fighters thread doesn't belong in boxers of the past then nothing does.thatsnotabanana wrote:Is that supposed to be a wise ass comment? These guys ain't exactly ancient, and Moorer is in comeback talks at the moment.
But I agree Marciano threads don't belong here. Other than that, good job.
Tyson via early ko.
Moorer was one of the most overrated HW chanps of all time. Foreman was comming off a clear points loss when he was given the chance to fight him. The guy who previously beat Foreman (won't mention that roid using pigs name) would have killed Moorer.
IMO - Moorer was the beneficiary of Holyfield's lack of power. Lewis, Bowe, Tyson, or bunch of todays HW would have finnished the job

Comeback talks? Moorer? The same guy who couldn't even get by Eliceo Castillo not that long ago?thatsnotabanana wrote:Is that supposed to be a wise ass comment? These guys ain't exactly ancient, and Moorer is in comeback talks at the moment.

If you can't beat the likes of him today, simply stay out of the sport. We don't need one more heavyweight beating up on no-hopers, trying to snatch a big pay day with talk and the right maneouvreing (I can never spell that word right) from a more deserving, harder working, younger contender, and we wonder why the division is in such despair!

Tyson would have been too much for Moorer in 97, 98. Tyson was still a top notch fighter at that time, even though his skills had deminished alot. I honestly felt, if Tyson would have held his self together in the rematch with Holyfield, He would have stopped an angry bitten Holyfield. Tyson looked GREAT in that round, UNTIL........CHOMP number two.

Moorer in his prime was better than many give him credit for. He fought a very close fight with Evander (I scored their first fight a draw but it's still impressive) and beat the likes of Cooper, Botha, and Schultz. Vs a 1996 Tyson, if he came in stiff like vs Tua, he gets smoked early. If he was able to surive the first 3 rounds, it could get interesting, as Moorer had the southpaw style, skills, and pop to really give Tyson fits. I feel like he would've gotten caught sooner or later, but I wouldn't completly count him out.
Tyson Vs Moorer is simply a bad match up for Moorer.....Tyson would KO him early -
Moorer did put on a good performance Vs Holy in their first fight (but Holy totally dominated him in the rematch)....and in their first fight had the one judge scored the 2nd round correctly (and he admitted after the fight he was wrong)....when Holy scored a clean knockdown with a flush counter right hand.....had that been scored a 10-8 round.....Moorer doesn't win the fight via Maj Dec.
If Moorer would have stayed at LHW or even CW....he could have reigned for quite some time....he had huge power for those divisions......interestingly enough he did progress well from being a brutal KO champion at LHW....to a very good boxer at HW.

re
Moorer was a monster at light heavyweight...at heavyweight he wasn't much. Very good skill, but a total lack of aggression, not the greatest defense and a really shaky chin at 200+ pounds completely nullify the skill...Tyson by quick knockout...similar to what Tua did to Moorer.
Though Moorer looked really good against Foreman, nearly beat Foreman's lips off until being caught with the lucky punch in the tenth.

Well....You are the odd one out....in the fact that one judge scored it a draw....and the other two a very close pts win for Moorer.....one of them by 1pt (I think it was Roth)....who openly admitted afterward that his scorecard was a mistake....in that he thought he scored the 2nd round a 10-8 for Holy (because Holy scored a clean kd)....Had Roth scored the 2nd round correctly....even a clearly sub par Holy would have not lost that fight and walked out with a draw.Decagon wrote:Holyfield didn't do shit in the first Moorer fight. Anyone could have beaten him that night, practically. Think of it this way. The Holyfield that lost to Moorer vs. the Roy Jones that beat James Toney? I'd put my money on the middleweight. Heck, around that time, Toney was 218 pounds. Imagine what he could have done if he'd been in the ring with that version of Holyfield. He did NOTHING in that fight, and I clearly scored it for Moorer.
While Holy clearly wasn't at his best that night....it was still a close fight....and Holy fully dominated Moorer in their rematch.

I have to agree with Decagon here. For whatever reason Holyfield was awful in the first Holyfield-Moorer fight. He just didn't do hardly anything except for the knockdown. Moorer deserved the decision. It would have been a terrible decision of it would have been a draw. Of course the 2nd fight was a completely story.meade95 wrote:Well....You are the odd one out....in the fact that one judge scored it a draw....and the other two a very close pts win for Moorer.....one of them by 1pt (I think it was Roth)....who openly admitted afterward that his scorecard was a mistake....in that he thought he scored the 2nd round a 10-8 for Holy (because Holy scored a clean kd)....Had Roth scored the 2nd round correctly....even a clearly sub par Holy would have not lost that fight and walked out with a draw.Decagon wrote:Holyfield didn't do shit in the first Moorer fight. Moorer actually isn't as bad as some people think. He looked pretty good in some of his fights. However against a big puncher like Tyson, he would have no chance. Doubtful if he gets past the 2nd round.
