Michael Hunter to fight on Takam vs Usyk card

Post by oogiebe »

"Michael Hunter has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing USA.

Hunter (16-1 11KOs) has impressed at Heavyweight having moved up in weight following a World title clash with pound-for-pound star Oleksandr Usyk in April 2017 – claiming four wins on the trot, with impressive stoppages over Martin Bakole in London in October and then Alexander Ustinov in Monte Carlo in December.

Victory over former World title challenger Ustinov landed Hunter the WBA International strap, and he sits at #12 in the WBA rankings, higher still with the IBF at #10."

The opponent will be announced tomorrow (Thursday). I was never a big Hunter fan, but I've learned to appreciate him. I'm glad he's going to get back in the ring and hopefully make some noise.

So he’s finally signed with Matchroom.

Shame it always says Matchroom Boxing USA..

Eddie just building his stable there as he’s backed with DAZN money.

Only boxers he signs in the UK are newly turned pros or prospects.

I know technically they’re the same company but will we see Hunter in the UK?

Hunter should’ve and could’ve fought by now. Not fought since November. Said he’d be ready to fight again Jan/Feb.

I guess Eddie will feed him Takam after Usyk is done with him.

@ Ruthless: Hunter fought Martin Bakole-Ilunga in London only last October. I see no reason he shouldn't fight in the UK again do you?

I quite like him......not the biggest, not the most polished, but he's game, can punch a bit and could cause some of those top names a few problems....

Maybe another win or two, and once Usyk has had his first heavyweight fight, they might get a rematch on?? :maybe:

He took some savage beating in that fight, dont think rematch is a wise decision. That 12th round can cause brain damage to 90% boxers IMO :O Very bad job by referee

Good point...Hunter took a real shellacking in that final round, but in his beatdown of Ustinov, Mike looked like he's recovered pretty well in the 2 years since Usyk.
