Do you believe about test of punching power by Fox Sports ?

Post by ValMar »

I have read that Gervonta Davis (on the mentioned test) had better left hand power than Dominic Breazeale ( :OhYes: ).
Wilder had a little bit better result than Davis ( :brick: ).
Can you believe this ?
I am too old, and I will never believe in this kind of "bizarre news" .......
What about you ? Do you believe ?

Is this actual power or P4P power?

If it's P4P, then it may be possible.

But a 130 lb fighter punching just a little bit better than a heavyweight who may be the best pure puncher in the game?

Well boxing has always been loaded with a heavy dose of malarkey.

I tend to think the "sports science" tests that FS & ESPN sometimes do are rather over-hyped. They are designed to get good ratings and they generate as much controversy as possible toward that goal, so I generally take them with a grain of salt.

Yes I do. I’ve seen lots of punching bag challenges on various TV shows and plenty of celebrities have achieved better scores than professional boxers.

I don’t know if the machine requires special technique or whether it lacks accuracy, but they do often generate surprising results.

I guess what really matters is the consistency of punching power rather than a one-shot max.

I strongly suspect if there was an equivalent machine that measured the average punching power for each shot landed on a heavy bag using lots of powerful combinations thrown over a one-minute duration, this machine would produce more accurate and more meaningful average-based stats.

That's exactly what I was thinking :TU:

COMPLETE nonsense, these machine and tests. The punching power of a boxer depends on many things in the moment....exact spot he lands the shot, the opponents level of resiliency etc... you see a boxer get caught with 10 BIG overhand rights but gets KO'd with a harmless looking right hand...Jeff Fenech was a well known rough and super tough guy with a steel chain yet gets KO'd by notorious light hitter Calvin Grove. MANY MANY examples to show... but, for sure, the punching power is determined simply by the effect it has on the target it reaches at the moment it reaches it.

The test said wilder doesn't hit as hard as davis? They should have poured gasoline on that machine and lit it on fire on the spot

There must be one of those high-tech machines out there that indicates Crolla has better boxing skills than Lomachenko. :OhYes:

Those little punch measuring machines are very finnicky. You can get a great reading one time, and a poor reading another time just based on what part of the surface you hit that's doing the calculating. I wouldn't put much stock into it at all.
