Feather Jamie McKeever

Post by AntonS »

He's challenging Aussie based Ugandan Jackson Asiku for his C'wealth title on June 16.
Can some of you give me a bit of info on him please.
Cheers

An extremely entertaining slugger who will probably be outclassed by Asiku .
McKeever loves a good live and death struggle and Jim Betts had him in trouble in one of his more recent fights(flooring him) but McKeever turned it round and stopped Betts impresively .

His stamina is suspect but you can't question his heart , I'd expect Asiku to stop him anywhere between rounds 7-9 in a great fight .

Exciting, all action fighter.

Lacks big power but fights with plenty of heart, catches quite a few as he tries to get his own body and head hooks off as I remember. Pressure fighter.

Havent seen him box for a few years though, but I think thats a fair assessment.

He's definitely exciting, face first though. I think Asiku will give him a sound beating.

I think Jamie puts to much into the first rounds, if he's learnt to pace himself a bit better he stands a chance . Jamie looked superb when he won the British title with a KO over Tony Mullholland.
At the time i looked at him as guy who could make a few defenses, was a bit surprised when he lost it in his first defense.
Jamie has a good chin, and nice agressive skills, but not a knockout puncher.

I've not seen Asiku box, but looking at his record he has a decent chin himself , but isn't the biggest puncher, although his 1 round blastout of Callaghan has to be respected.

The fight is in McKeevers' home town, so that can boost him, and Asiku has been beaten by fighters who throw alot of punches, something that Jamie does.

I love watching him.
I first saw him when we won the British title a few years back when he beat Mulholland.
The downside to him is that he has an anvil for a head and to top it he doesn't move it around so he is really easy to hit.
He has all of 4 or five knockcouts in his 20 odd fight carreer, so he just wins by volume of punches and wearing down of opponents. Although his stamina is a problem aswell.
Even with these shortfalls he is great to watch, the boy is all heart.

I haven't seen much of Asiku other than his damn impressive win over Marc Callaghan to win the title.

On that performance, he looks a different level to McKeever (no disrespect, but IMO he was one of the worst British champions I have seen).

However, he will be bigger and stronger than Callaghan - and I don't know how he will react to fighting a bigger man.

I do favour Asiku alot but McKeever could bring some value to the bookies.

Shows how different some people see fights, i was impressed with McKeever when he won the title, and wouldn't rate him as one of the worst title holders of the title.

I saw Asiku fight in Coventry the fight before he took on Callaghan and couldn't believe my eyes he was exceptional, a real class act fighting in a six rounder in Coventry.

He was definately a lot better than Michael Deveney (who was poor) but I cannot think of many others... Roy Rutherford beat him comfortably, but he didn't do alot after. Dazzo Williams showed he was stricly domestic title class, when battered by Cook and "beaten" by Simpson - but he beat McKeever pretty comfortably.

I don't want to be too critical - he is a top 7 Featherweight, but in a time when there isn't that much depth - sure when he was British champ there was 3 excellent fighters in Brodie, Harrison and Cook - but beyond that it isn't so good.
