Words aren't exactly evil actions. They're only words. He'll blast out Breazeale inside 3.
Fandom of Wilder waning
Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
i dunno, he seems pretty dim to me tbh, reading his comments and interactions on social media etc he often completely misunderstands the points and stuff like that etc. i know he had awful grades in school to and thats why he went to a small college even though he was scouted for football (or was it basketball) by a much bigger school...then i think he had to drop out of college because he was failing
but who cares, hes great to watch in the ring

And no he did not flunk out of college.
His daughter was born with spina bifida when Wilder was 19. At 20 he dropped out of college to work full time to help raise money for doctors bills.
I'd he an asshole? Without a doubt.
Is he fun to watch? Without question.
If you can't seperate the boxer from the person then you are going to hate him.
If you just focus on what's happening in the sport for him he's a joy to watch.
Like many other fighters that are assholes I still watch and cheer them on
Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
i just looked into it and a lot of articles say 'grade issues' as well as the birth of his daughter. maybe those articles are all lying?tiny_acres wrote: ↑15 Apr 2019, 12:08 It was basketball.

I'm not saying he's stupid. To me I'm tiring of thoughtless comments coming from a boxer who has seemed to lose his sense of self since being taken to task by Fury. Of course I'll continue to watch him, with that super right hand, I'm saying it's gotten harder to root for him and I was a big fan early on.
Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
ya no sh1t, ppl were talking of his intelligence though, just gives me a 'dim' impression from most things ive seen and read
Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
I don't know if he's smart, but he is lacking in emotional intelligence. Most fighters probably are. Wilder is obviously not schooled in public speaking nor does he seem aware of the impact of what he says on his personal reputation. Between his excuses and silly comments, I am personally not "connecting" with him as I used to.

Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
For me he's the most exciting heavyweight out there right now and as has already been said, words aren't actions. He's in the hurt business and would be a hypocrite if he said any different.
Sure, he could choose his words more carefully as AJ learnt to do, but then they wouldn't be coming directly from the heart.
I just hope he's using his head a bit more when it comes to the business side of boxing.
If a boring failed drug cheat like Fury can sign for £80, 000, 000 what's the most explosive exciting fighter since Tyson worth?
If Breazeale and Miller go as expected we're on for the heavyweight fight of the century.

Just speaking from personal interaction. I didn't give him an iq test. Not that they mean anything. I was 23/24 on an ESPN test that I finished in 5 minutes of the allowed 45. They said it was the highest score ever at that site. I ended up not taking the job because I've never done a power point presentation.jamamb wrote: ↑15 Apr 2019, 11:45 i dunno, he seems pretty dim to me tbh, reading his comments and interactions on social media etc he often completely misunderstands the points and stuff like that etc. i know he had awful grades in school to and thats why he went to a small college even though he was scouted for football (or was it basketball) by a much bigger school...then i think he had to drop out of college because he was failing

Knowing that he is a father makes the 'killing' quote even worse. You can still promote yourself without going to that level. He has it in him to be ok and has been on occasions. Great role model, he certainly ain't.

Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
Duran always talked about killing opponents.
Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
That was in a very different time socially. Folks are "sensitive" today. That was all part of Duran's persona as a fighter. Wilder seems to be trying to adopt it as his own, but only of late. Contrived.

Nothing they say means anything to me. But if you're saying it was OK then and now it's not that's extremely hypocritical.

Nope, not what I'm saying at all.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑15 Apr 2019, 14:41 Nothing they say means anything to me. But if you're saying it was OK then and now it's not that's extremely hypocritical.
Re: Fandom of Wilder waning
Duran was a little devil. I believe Jerry Quarry compared him to Charles Manson when he was announcing. Love em or hate em, Duran and Wilder play(ed) the bad guy role to a degree.
I've been a fan of both, but I think talking about killing an opponent is crossing the line in any era, but it's doubtful my opinion would matter to them.

to get more 'bad guy' press these days you should be insulting gays/transgenders and saying you love trump

After my wife made me watch "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and seeing Wilder barely able to hold a general conversation, I think he is as dumb as dirt.
His interviews mostly contain repeated catch phrases like you would expect an Isis prisoner to spout after suffering Stockholm Syndrome.

Again, I'm just going off the few times I've talked to him.KiwiRider wrote: ↑15 Apr 2019, 15:07 After my wife made me watch "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and seeing Wilder barely able to hold a general conversation, I think he is as dumb as dirt.

I don't know why but this quote from Dillian Whyte really cracked me up!
To Deontay Wilder "You Are No Killer, You Are a Crackhead!"
I hope Dill gets a fight soon.
