Canelo wants to fight Kovalev

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Canelo talks Jacobs, Golovkin, and wanting to fight Kovalev"

Might we see Canelo Alvarez make a jump to light heavyweight?

On saying he wants to fight Sergey Kovalev and him being a much bigger fighter:

“It’s true. I don’t care [that he’s a big guy], I like it whenever there’s a risk or challenge for me.”

Thoughts? :-?

Why not Callum Smith at 168 lbs and then Gvozdyk/Bivol at 175 lbs ? IF "I like it whenever there’s a risk or challenge for me" :OhYes:

Oh wait! Kovalev is a 36 y/o fighter with a title but it's a decent fight if it happens this year at 175 lbs. :TU:

He better get to Kovalev by May of 2020.

He won't hold on to that title much longer.

On the contrary, he will wait longer. Remember, he "wanted" to fight Golovkin a few years before it actually happened.

He was just talking about his boxing goals.

Canelo was still a junior middleweight back then. I don't see any reason he had to jump up to 160 when he was still comfortable at the lighter weight.

Just because fans want to see a certain fight is no reason for a boxer to leave his natural weight class just to appease them.

Exact same situation now. He is just talking about his boxing goals. He is still a middleweight.

..I would expect Canelo to leave his comfort zone and start boxing "behind enemy lines"..

That's right.

He didn't say he's wants to fight Kovalev now or even this year.

Canelo will fight him when he feels he's ready for that big jump in weight, assuming the bout could actually materialize.

Assuming the Mexican can successfully overcome the challenges posed by Danny Jacobs and Demetrius Andrade during 2019, with Sergey Kovalev avoiding suffering another defeat for the remainder of the year, then I’d expect Main Events and GBP to orchestrate a highly-lucrative bout between the Krusher and Canelo during early 2020.

I, think Jacobs has a pretty fair chance to beat Canelo.

If he deserves it, he'll get the decision.

But I firmly believe that Jacobs is getting outclassed and knocked out.

Stylewise it makes for a good fight, if it happens and when is another question.

The ONLY way Canelo fights Kovalev is if they can give him enough $$$$$$$$ to drain himself and come in at Canelo weight under the light heavyweight limit so Ginger and Oscar feel SAFE.

Good fight and good challenge for Canelo but it’s guaranteed there’ll be some concessions. There was a rehydration limit for Fielding - precedent set.

I wouldn't worry much about potential stipulations.

The fight, if it ever comes off, is probably more than a year away.

By then Canelo could be a cruiserweight.
