Tyson & Biggs. Bad Blood?

Post by KOJOE90 »

When a rampaging Mike Tyson defended his Heavyweight Title against the then undefeated Tyrell Biggs, Tyson really put on a prolonged beating on the former Olympic Champion many at the time felt Tyson could have won that fight in the 3rd or 4th round if he had really wanted to.

Tyrell Biggs many years later admitted he knew he was doomed from about the 3rd round but not for the first time showed a lot of guts and heart and hung in there.

My question though is this I have heard there was prior to this fight some bad blood between the two fighters, mostly coming from Tyson and these are the two supposed reasons for this.

(1) In the Olympic trails of 1984 Tyson wanted to compete in the Super-Heavyweight division. But th 'Golden Boy' Biggs was instead chosen. Tyson then had to boil his still growing body down to the Heavyweight limit and Tyson deeply resented Biggs for this. Tyson went on to twice lose to Henry Tillman in the trials and Biggs went on to capture Olympic Gold, which I am sure would not have improved Tysons mood.

(2) During the Olympic trails the outgoing Biggs would often mock and make fun of the quieter and shy Tyson in front of the other Boxers.

So are either or both of these points the reasons that Tyson layed out such a beating on Biggs in there Title fight years later?

Any thoughts or opinions fight fans? :box:

I've heard Biggs made fun of Tyson during the 1984 trials. At that point, Tyson was very shy and may have even been intimidated by Biggs.

As an amateur, Tyson needed reassurance in his onw self-belief.

Have you seen the footage of Teddy Atlas consoling a tearful Mike Tyson before a particular bout? Once he had the 'vote of confidence' from Teddy, Mike went and KO'd his opponent in 8 seconds!

Tyson was made fun as a child. It was a bad move by Biggs if he did make fun of Mike. Mike gave him a beating when they fought in Oct. 1987. One of Tyson's best performance's. Mike showed good body-punching in that fight. Biggs was busted-up badly!

Yes I have it on tape on more than one Tyson documentary. Really showed how insecure he was and maybe still is.
