Post by Best Coast »

In terms of big-time major fights involving world-class fighters there are a good number of venues that can make that claim in the past decade.

You missed out the O2 Arena.. Loads of events there over the past 10 years.

Also, I take it Madison Square Garden, NYC has included fights at The Theatre.

I really think there should be more events at MEN Arena. Shame! :shame:

Also, Staples is a nice arena.

Can see how much the MGM has been used since T-Mobile opened.

Thanks for the input. It has to be a specific VENUE in Moscow, not just anywhere in Moscow. Do you know which specific venue in Moscow has had the most big fights?

I included 3 Khan fights from MEN Arena under Manchester Arena (from before they changed the name). Froch-Groves I is from the brief period that venue was called "Phones4u Arena". What other fights should I include for MEN besides the 3 Khan fights from 2009-2011? Two Calzaghe bouts (Bika, Lacy) and Hatton-Tszyu would have been included except they were held in 2005-06, WELL over a decade ago.

MGM Grand has seen a slight downturn since T-Mobile was built but Mandalay Bay has lost even more big fights than MGM in past few years. If we went back to 2000 Mandalay would be top 3 because they were battling MGM Grand head-to-head for the first 10 years of the 21st century.

Sorry mate you misunderstood. I didn’t mean you have missed some fights at MEN. I mean there should be more boxing at the MEN in general.

Think he was alluding to the fact that the Theatre at MSG is its own venue than the big MSG arena itself.....
A lot of the fights are actually in the smaller theatre. :TU:

Thanks for the input!! Under two conditions I count certain venues as one venue:

1. Smaller theaters or rooms inside MSG are still counted as MSG as long as it's in the same building

2. A venue that changes names but stays in the same building counts as one venue, like Manchester Arena, which started in 1990s as M.E.N. Arena then briefly became Phones4U Arena around 2013. After P4U company went out of business it became Manchester Arena, which is what it goes by now.

Of all the venues you listed this one deserves special mention. Klitschko-Povetkin & Usyk-Gassiev are probably the 2 most important fights ever held in Russia in its brief pro boxing history!! Russia didnt even have pro boxing until about 1990 or so, which means less than 3 decades of pro boxing.

Once I get time to find the dates of those bouts you listed I will add Olympiyskiy to the Top 10 (Top 11) List.

Would imagine the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium/Bodymaker Collosseum/EDION Arena Osaka (1 venue with 3 names) and the Ota City Gymnasium would be on the fringes of top 10. On a mobile so not checking at the moment, but a lot of big fights at both
