Lloyd Honeyghan vs Milton McCrory

Post by scorpio83 »

Who would win this match up in their prime at Welterweight in 15 rounds between Lloyd Honeyghan and Milton McCrory? Would the Raggamuffin Man, whom Donald Curry called Honeyghan before losing his World Welterweight Title in an upset fashion, pounded the taller McCrory for a late round stoppage win between 11 to 15 rounds or McCrory would use his height and reach advantage to out-box him behind his jabs and combinations for a decision win or a late round stoppage win between 10 to 15 rounds?

Milton wins a unanimous decision in a tough fight, like 9-6. Pre-Jones McCrory stops him late. All the Kronk's training kicks in in this fight.

I don't know enough about McCrory to be perfectly honest.....

…..but Lloyd had some big nights and despite the odd slip-up his record suggests that he'd be a danger to even the very elite when his head was completely straight and the lifestyle was clean.

Unfortunately, from what I have gleaned he could have gone far further but he loved the ladies and a night on the town and he kind of lost the edge after maybe the second fight with Jorge Vaca. He tried to bomb people out a bit too much after that and lacked the patience and took silly shots.

He apparently drove Mickey Duff round the bend as well.....it was a very testy relationship indeed. And when Lloyd has occasionally turned-up on telly in recent years the hard partying life was evidently not a myth.

Interesting argument. McCrory before the Donald Curry fight may beat Starling by late stoppage or decision in 15 rounds, but if McCrory shows up from the Curry, Starling would punish him behind his jabs and combinations to take a late round stoppage between 10 to 15 rounds or a decision win.

McCrory went life and death twice with Colin Jones and was bombed out by Curry, which doesn't bode well for him here. A fit, focused Honeyghan, before his hands fell apart breaks McCrory down here by around the 8th.

Read an interview which Milton mccrory had reservations about fighting Marlon. Personally, at both best, and Milton having no hand injuries, I would favor McCrory in a close fight over 15. Very slim chance of him stopping Marlon, however.

I wonder how the Lloyd Honeyghan version of the Curry fight would do to McCrory from either the Colin Jones fight version or the same Donald Curry fight version?

You've lost me a bit Scorpio with the above permutations.....but I am a simple soul

What I would say is that when Lloyd has been discussed before a small number of folk have tended to view it as Curry totally blowing-it and Honeyghan merely being in the right place at the right time.

That has always felt a harsh assessment.....maybe Curry needed to move up.....but Honeyghan's energy, fitness, desire and marauding style should not be discounted. It was also his first title shot and overseas.

He was a very dangerous man that night and although Duff told more than his quota of tall stories to sell a fight.....his view that Honeyghan was primed and obsessed with beating Curry was a rare case of Duff not completely exaggerating.

I've watched the fight a few times and it's Honeyghan's attitude, ring presence and physical sharpness that takes Curry clean out of his stride for my money.

I'd take Honeyghan at his best over McCrory, maybe even by a late stoppage. I think Lloyd was ruined by Starling and that led to his defeat against Mark Breland. A peak Honeyghan knocks out Breland in my view.
