Claressa Shields: ‘I’d give GGG a run for his money’
Fresh from becoming the undisputed women’s middleweight champion of the world, US boxing sensation Claressa Shields has said she could match male fighters – even naming Kazakh great Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin among them.
Speaking to TMZ, Shields said she would also be happy to mix it with some big names from the world of men’s boxing, claiming she could more than hold her own.
“Absolutely,” the Flint fighter replied when asked whether there were men she could beat.
“I’m a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Undisputed champion. People say, ‘a woman can’t beat a man.’ I spar with men, I drop men, I bust men’s noses, I beat men up all the time.”
Shields even named names, including former unified welterweight world champion Keith Thurman and two-time welterweight world champ Shawn Porter.
“If I was to say which guy I think I could beat up, I think I could beat up Keith Thurman… I could beat Shawn Porter too, skill-wise,” Shields said.
“They may be stronger than me, but their boxing ability isn’t like mine.”
Training her sights even higher, Shields said she would even be prepared to step between the ropes with 37-year-old Kazakh middleweight great Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, whose professional slate stands at 38 wins from 40 fights.
“Triple G, he’s older now, but I could give Triple G a run for his money.
“You know what, power for power isn’t a question, because boxing is a sweet science. It isn’t about strength,” Shields said
“People were saying Christina Hammer was stronger than me, that all these girls were stronger than me.
“But you did not see the head movement in that fight, the defense, the offense, the traps I set.
“If I was to get in there with a man, I would do a lot more of that. I do have some power. I’m not gonna say I’m stronger than them, but if I set up the right shot, with the right timing…”
Shields is certainly confident, although unlikely to see her wish of taking on men sanctioned any time soon.

Good for Claressa Shields
She has mastered the fine art of attracting media attention.
She says outrageous things. The press dutifully writes down every word she utters and voila: Shields quickly turns into a household name.
All of which figures to eventually make her the wealthiest female boxer ever.
She's quite a wise young woman.

btw i always lol at how ppl think someone trash talking for media attention means they are a wise or intelligent person
even stupid little kids know that blabbing gets noticed more then being silent. a lot of 'talkers' are just talkers and big mouths anyway, not merely for some career strategy. we all know these types in our daily life

The biggest fight of Claressa Shields’ career drew slightly lower viewership than her previous appearance on Showtime.
Nielsen Media Research viewership figures released Tuesday revealed that the Shields-Christina Hammer fight drew a peak audience of 369,000 viewers Saturday night. Average viewership for their 10-round middleweight title unification fight was 339,000.

omg her numbers are going down! even though they went to all that effort to promote it
now she has declining numbers and very few opponents to fight, yep huge superstar here

She drops men in sparring but come fight night she couldn't knock out a five knuckle shuffle.

But the media and boxing bosses are pushing it very hard. I'm disgusted by it, and I know I'm not the only one, man or woman, who feels that way. Soon the "transgenders" will invade womens boxing, as they already have mma, and cause permanent damage to the actual women, and it will become even more grotesque. Some countries outlaw it.

Not enough love here for Ms. Shields.
Maybe the most athletic female boxer on the planet. She would have been a terrific track and field star if she cared to pursue it.
Shields made the highly touted Hammer look like it was her first night in the ring.
What's not to love about her? I know, some of you guys prefer your boxers to be bland, robotic personalities in search of a tiny spark of charisma.
But some of us enjoy and applaud confidence and cocky bravado, especially when its combined with immense talent.
The fact that she gets so much mileage here is evidence that Shields has made a lasting impression. Far more than Taylor, Braekhus and Hammer combined.

She said "run". I guess she could run a minute or two before getting flattened.

According to the quotes at the start of this thread she says she would give GGG a run for his money but beat up and both Thurman and Porter.
" I think I could beat up Keith Thurman… I could beat Shawn Porter too, skill-wise,” Shields said.
“They may be stronger than me, but their boxing ability isn’t like mine.”
She is kind of coming from the Teofimo Lopez school of promotion, talk big...hope to get $$$$

where would you rank her in the male rankings? top 100? top 200? i'd say top 300, at best, especially considering her lack of power
