This has been debated on countless occasions over the years - I don't understand how anyone could believe a monster' like Liston could go down from such a routine punch as this.
The best explanation I've heard to date for Liston's dive was the story that the Black Muslins had locked Liston's wife and daughter in their hotel bedroom and got the message to Liston's dressing room that this was the case.
The Black Muslims used Ali for publicity,money and status and couldn't afford the outcome if Liston had destroyed their man.
Although this fight was delayed and no one wanted to promote it after the initial cancellation, there are strong grounds for believing that Liston was still intent on annihilating Ali.
As Cannon said in the interview I don't believe the 'fix' was in, in other wards Liston wasn't paid to take a dive.
