Round-by-Round: Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan - April 20, 2019
Re: Round-by-Round: Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan - April 20, 2019
P4P
I don't put Crawford above Spence in terms of skills.
Spence and Lomachenko are almost level on skills but have a few differences that could swing it either way between them, we haven't seen everything they have to offer as yet so unless one of them makes a move neither will rise above the other significantly enough to claim a clear No 1 status.
For me I love it, the chase is the juice and neither of them can lay enough down to out do the other, it's a stand off.
Numbers, titles, opponents ect ... Lomachenko has the edge have you seen who he's fought ?
Spence looks in his prime right now and impressing with every move so for a boxing fan it's one hell of a nice problem to try and solve.

It' not a criticism, but Crawford came across as rugged, could be because he was boxing the smaller Khan, still he had to step right in the zone to get off his punches and put a stamp on the fight.
Could question his skills but only 6 rounds had elapsed.

Between Khan's upper right thigh and pelvis ?
Would hurt but it's not where you're saying it is.

People who says this was okay never wear pair of gloves or was never punched to the balls. Referee should give Khan 5 minute rest. Crawford should be hit with a flying radio to the head.

Khan was done by the sixth but it would have been great to see a bit more. Obviously Khan is no longer the fighter he was - his legs looked slow and he went in with an elbow injury. The old Amir never got caught with a low shot like that.
Talking of which, it needs asking how a respected boxer like Crawford can land a punch THAT low without any penalty? What deterrent is there now against low blows? Or is it just a question of who is the A side?
I remember the days when even borderline blows used to get a caution.

A couple of rounds more and Khan would have been KOed. Everything was clear at the beginning. Crawford quickly got to Khan's glass jaw, but as a smart master Crawford wasn't rushing with finishing attempts, he was toying with Khan, slowly but certainly breaking him down. Khan knew that. The low blow looked like a used opportunity of quitting.

I just watched the fight and Crawford dominated from the first bell BUT terrible reffing Khan was hit low he should of been given 5 minutes to recover the ref just tried to get Khan to keep fighting he never gave him time to recover....
Crawford would of stopped Khan anyway but I can't believe it wasn't brought up after the fight .

The ref would have given him the time. Khan had the option. Khan decided to quit essentially quitting on his stool. Fair enough we’ve seen time and time again Khans heart. He even had heart to continue following the first KD. He had nothing left, the low blow was the cherry on top, he opted out, I don’t blame him. Think of his health and family.paddy chavez wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 04:09 I just watched the fight and Crawford dominated from the first bell BUT terrible reffing Khan was hit low he should of been given 5 minutes to recover the ref just tried to get Khan to keep fighting he never gave him time to recover....

The ref should of said do you want the 5 minutes but he just kept asking if he will carry on he kind of forced Khan to quit .lazboy wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 05:09 The ref would have given him the time. Khan was done and he would of only taken more punishment if he had carried on but he wasn't given the option.

I’m sorry I see it very differently. He’s been a professional a long time, he knows the rules. The ref was asking how he was doing. Khan could have taken the full time, he didn’t give his answer to the ref,/ he gave it to Hill. He was done. It’s the same principal as quitting on the stool. IMO he was already running on empty, the low blow destroyed any remaining will. No shame in it. Crawford put a hell of a lot of pressure on and wasn’t going anywhere.paddy chavez wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 05:14 The ref should of said do you want the 5 minutes but he just kept asking if he will carry on he kind of forced Khan to quit .

Quitting is a harsh word but life is harsh and that’s how it goes. Khan will always be remembered as a fighter with a lot of heart, tonight he made the smart move - it was his choice,
I’ve been kicked in the balls a couple times and one if those times it ruined me, took my energy not just pain. Khan had already done 6 hard fought rounds with an opponent he couldn’t fend off. I wouldn’t want him to take an unnecessary beating just for the fans. Fair enough it was anti climatic but Khan knew how he was feeling best. He admitted it post fight. He’s honest, he has heart but Crawford was the better fighter tonight.

Crap ending to what was turning into a fun fight. It was inevitable what was to come in the next couple rounds though, to me anyways (if not for the low blow). Crawford was starting to work the body and it really was only a matter of time before Crawford landed a fight ending shot to the head.
The referee handled the situation terribly, Khan and Hunter found a way out of the fight from what I believe was a accidental low blow(made me cringe when Crawford said it wasn't low).
Was never a fan of Khan, but always felt he was must watch TV based on his willingness to engage and go out on his shield. This looked to be another one of those fights (up to the low blow), but I don't believe in 5 minutes time that Khan wouldn't have been able to continue. I really lost respect for Khan as a fighter and I'm not buying he couldn't continue, quiting in this case was a choice not a necessity.
Crawford looked good for fighting a guy with fast hands and a lot of in and out movement, he boxed very nicely, it's hard to not get caught from time to time by a guy like Khan who has that kind of quickness. Although I wasn't super impressed, I'd still favor Crawford's skills to unglue Spence. I'd be happy to be proven wrong by Spence, please make the fight!

Yeh. Let’s not forget, Khan was never supposed to win this fight.paddy chavez wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 04:09 I just watched the fight and Crawford dominated from the first bell BUT terrible reffing Khan was hit low he should of been given 5 minutes to recover the ref just tried to get Khan to keep fighting he never gave him time to recover....

I think most are angry/upset because they never got to a see KTFO moment.

Khan's corner stopped the fight, evidently. The referee should not ne blamed. Period.

Re: Round-by-Round: Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan - April 20, 2019
The ref would have given him the time.
But Khan and then Hunter made it clear that the fighter wasn't interested in continuing.
If he rejects 5 minutes, he's saying no mas.

BTW, it was a low blow, but not at the balls..............
Re: Round-by-Round: Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan - April 20, 2019
..that's true , Val...however, one has an impression this referee has not been trained properly...it's a low blow, give dude 5-minute break, don't run around like crazy keep asking the same question every 10 seconds...just leave him alone..maybe 5 minutes later the boxer will change his mind and continue..

Crawford was ahead 49-45 on two judges' cards and 50-44 on the other.

I agree, the ref looked a little bit confused, but, Khan's trainer obviously stopped the fight.greg wrote: ↑21 Apr 2019, 10:00 ..that's true , Val...however, one has an impression this referee has not been trained properly...it's a low blow, give dude 5-minute break, don't run around like crazy keep asking the same question every 10 seconds...just leave him alone..maybe 5 minutes later the boxer will change his mind and continue..![]()
In the judges place, I would have deducted a point from Crawford and gave Khan the five minutes free, there is no dilemma about that. I believe that Khan's corner would stop the fight in any case.
