TJ Doheny vs Daniel Roman

Post by handsofstone »

World Super Bantamweight unification fight this Friday on sky on the Rungivisai/Estrada 2 card, cracking fight looking forward to it, only seen both men for first time in their previous fight, both men very impressive and funnily enough I thought both men won via slightly premature stoppages, I thought Doheny was excellent against Takahashi but the stoppage was bizarre, the ref stepped in as Takahashi was boxing as well as he had all night, Roman showed his class against McDonnell as well but again just as McDonnell was having his best spell he got decked and the ref waved it off immediately, I thought McDonnell probably could've carried on but the ref might have seen something

Doheny looks a classy southpaw, moves well and picks some nice shots off, Roman looks a more traditional bread and buter boxer, good fundamentals, I think this is anyones fight and will be close, i'll probably edge towards Doheny to eek out a decision but should be a good 'un

You can get 5/1 on a Doheny win. Can't say I've seen him fight I don't think, but Roman has shown some class about his work in the last few years. Would expect he wins this one too.

This fight is in LA. They’re always late.

Expect this fight ring walks around 4am and main event at 5am.

I think this is a good competitive fight. While Roman may deserve to be favourite I think the odds on Doheny are very generous. I may invest a small bet.

Most enjoyable fight I've watched in some time, absolutely superb I thought. How Doheny got through to the final bell after those body shots I'll never know, warrior. I had Roman by 2 rounds in the end but the fight ebbed and flowed with both having very strong spells and the other having to show serious toughness. What you would expect to see from two world champions head to head

Roman is so methodical in his approach, he always looks measured and unflustered in his work & his body punching was so accurate at times. TJ proved he deserves to be at the top of the division with some slick movement and nice counters combined with his awkward southpaw style - despite defeat I'm sure he will be in some cracking top level bouts in the future.

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai $500k, Juan Francisco Estrada $200k

Daniel Roman $200k, TJ Doheny $230,000

Jessie Vargas $1.2M, Humberto Soto $150k

That's scandalous! Just highlights how much the little guys are overlooked despite them providing top entertainment time and time again!

How many of the 5,127 at The Forum, do you think paid to see the main event and how many paid to see Vargas?

I know Vargas is from the area. So who knows..

At least super-flys saw a big increase in their purses cmpared to the first fight.

Barnstormer of a fight, real high level action, I thought Doheny nicked it 114-113 but it was a close fight, the knockdowns definitely helped Roman claw it back after being outboxed for spells, he struggled with the constant movement of Doheny who never stayed still and kept drilling him with the left hand, I thought Doheny was excellent, showed great technical ability as well as a big heart, he recovered well after getting put down from the left hook in the 2nd, got up and went back to outboxing Roman who was walking forward but being picked off

Roman does nothing spectacular but like in the McDonnell fight he just kept pressing chipping away and in the later rounds started to break Doheny down, landed some hurtful body shots throughout and the left uppercut for the KD in the 11th was a sickener and Doheny done very well to not only get up but have a good last round, superb fight all round, best ive seen in a while

The only reason I thought he was worth more was because he is from the area BUT!!

If you’re gonna pay him more than the main event combined, that’s bullshît.

You’d think around $500-$700 just against Soto and that is still overpaying, considering he fought an old man.

That's it! Vargas is a mid level fighter at best! Mid level fighter fighting a guy who's fighting about 5 weights above what he should be  Unreal!

Great fight.

Since they were both champions and both promoted by Hearn can we assume there is a rematch clause?

Hope so.
