Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Steve Rolls - June 8, 2019
This is a garbage fight!
I hope it’s a commercial disaster, resulting in empty seats for Madison Square Garden, coupled with DiBella Entertainment and GGG Promotions staging a loss-making event, as well as DAZN gaining no new subscribers for their service.
I feel that promoters and broadcasters should anticipate incurring financial losses whenever they lazily attempt to sell a substandard offering to their consumers.
What’s the purpose of this poll? To highlight the fact that this is a blatant mismatch?

This fight shouldn’t even be taking place at the Hulu Theatre, nevermind the main arena.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑22 Apr 2019, 19:37 This is a garbage fight!

They should at least make some decent undercard for this

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Steve Rolls - June 8, 2019
Gennady Golovkin’s reason for 164lb fight is surprising but typically humble
His opponent hails from Toronto and agreed that the encounter will be contested at a maximum weight of 164 lbs.
The bout marks GGG’s debut on DAZN, after signing a six-fight global partnership in March.
“I’m very happy. I’m happy to go back to the sport. Also, I’m happy to be back at Madison Square Garden. It’s a very interesting time for me,” said Golovkin.
“It’s an amazing time for the sport. Also an amazing time for boxing. Madison Square Garden, I feel like it’s my second home.
“[With Rolls,] it doesn’t matter who says what. It’s going to be me and you in the ring and may the strongest man win. I would like to wish him luck, and we’ll see what happens.
“I don’t have a lot of time left in my career, this is the time when we’ll be able to give our audience a good big show.”
Why 164?
“I wanted to try it out, try this weight, but it wasn’t that big of a deal for me to do this weight. And for my opponent, this would be a little more comfortable since he usually fights at 168.
“I wouldn’t want him to be uncomfortable,” he added.

Love it - thanks for posting.
Two good men = great fight coming up.
Rolls finally gets a chance, but it's a slim one.

You think that when you scoop up the bottom of the barrel for an opponent, you wouldn't worry about needing a catchweight.
"Humble" Golovkin afraid to agree to 168 for a fight with Steve Rolls? Insanity.
I love how Golovkin spins it: He wants to make super middleweight Rolls comfortable by forcing him down to 164.
Makes sense.
Those twin pounding Canelo put on him must have effected his ability to reason.

Rolls may not be who we'd all like to see GGG fight, but he's far from the 'bottom of the barrel.'SenorPipino wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 12:17 You think that when you scoop up the bottom of the barrel for an opponent, you wouldn't worry about needing a catchweight.

Maybe that line will be on the promotional posters: HE CAN'T BE WORSE THAN WADE

Between this; the Fury fight; the AJ fight...I'm looking forward to the CW fights and Wilder/Breazeale.SenorPipino wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 15:57 Maybe that line will be on the promotional posters: HE CAN'T BE WORSE THAN WADE

No doubt. Fury fighting Schwarz was never appealing. Joshua-Miller was way ahead of Wilder-Breazeale but then that fûcked up.
Now it looks like Wilder has the better fight from the big HW’s.
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Steve Rolls - June 8, 2019
Go figure. At least we have some good prospects fighting at HW over the next several weeks. Efe; Rock; Makhmudov; Dubois; Hines; Hrgovic; (won't mention Dychko).Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 16:04 No doubt. Fury fighting Schwarz was never appealing. Yeh. No need to wish bad on someone who is just making a living. People are gonna buy tickets to this. He sold out The Forum around 16k against Dom Wade. GGG can shift tickets.
People ARE gonna watch on DAZN. If anything does not want to buy a ticket or watch, then that’s fine, no one is being forced.
No one should wish bad on another’s bread and butter.

Absolutely! Remember the mountains of flak he used to get just a few years ago?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 16:04 No doubt. Fury fighting Schwarz was never appealing. Joshua-Miller was way ahead of Wilder-Breazeale but then that fûcked up.

It'd be nice if some of those now began to say some nice things about Deontay Wilder.
Just imagine the heavyweight scene without him.
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Steve Rolls - June 8, 2019
Those folks would never credit him for anything. Even if he were to KO AJ, it'd be explained away.Thomastearns wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 16:33 Absolutely! Remember the mountains of flak he used to get just a few years ago?

lol wait we are giving wilder credit now or something for breazeale? i dont think miller failing a drug test really means dw should gain credit
Re: Gennady Golovkin vs. Steve Rolls - June 8, 2019
Never heard of Steve Rolls, but at least it's a pretty unbeaten record on GGG's record to Rolls over.
