Dubois; Joyce come to terms

Post by oogiebe »

The BBBoC reports that the parties have agreed to terms to meet this summer in an event promoted by Frvnkie Varren.

I'm shocked that this fight is taking place so quickly, but I'm stoked! A true 50/50 fight between two great prospects.

I saw an interview with Joyce over the weekend who said he was not going to take it and gave a lot of excuses - too early, they can do it later, they want to go down another path etc

Agreed, but it looks like their teams came to terms, so unless the BBBoC is wrong, it's happening.

Change of heart by Team Joyce after getting a little flak and realising they looked like they were giving it a big ole swerve?

Especially Joyce who is far closer to the top than Dubois at the moment. I thought Joyce was on the precipice of getting a top 15 opponent. I'm still holding my breath though. Something can still happen to make this fight not take place.

Joyce is 33. If he's going to make a serious impact as a pro, then he needs to take this fight, and win IMO.

I don't think he HAS to take this fight, but yeah, at this age, he absolutely must win.

Makes little sense for Joyce, super high risk, for relatively small reward. Every chance he gets steamrollered here, but if he wins,, so what, Dubois isn't going to thrust him into the global spotlight.

Dubois is very young so a loss wouldn't affect him too badly anyway, unless he got absolutely clobbered, but even then, time to come again.

Totally as I see it from a risk view. :TU:

Having said all that, it's a great fight for the British Title, and great for domestic boxing and the heavyweight division as a whole.

It used to be how things were done, top prospects from the UK facing off for the title, - it's surprising because it so seldom happens now, especially at heavyweight,.

The domestic heavyweight scene is arguably better than at any time since Henry Coopers pomp.

Yeah, there's no shortage of terrific HW's in the UK. The rankings have a lot of the Union Jack.

If Dubois can beat Joyce, he's the real deal.

Good match for a change. Probably won't happen.

Will it happen? We all know it won’t unfortunately!

If it does? It’ll be brilliant.

Something tells me Dubois is winning this. I know guys who’ve sparred both and Dubois’ power is very much for real. I think he just might catch Big Joe and jump all over him. Would be some statement

I’m glad they’re making this fight now as a big fight for the British title, there have been some pretty poor matchups for the HW title over the last few years.

I’m also pleased to see Joyce going for the Lonsdale belt, I did fear he would be defending that bogus WBA Gold title he won recently until it got him a title shot.

LOL! It's the wrong fight for Joyce. At 33, he's risking moving into the top 10 and any shot at a title shot for a year or so. Dubois is 21 and has plenty of time to recover from a loss to a Joyce.

If Joyce wins bunny will have options on him. Anyone who follows boxing knows that when you do a deal that it will always involve that.

Yeah I don't see any upside for Joyce taking the fight

Dubois is there for the taking IMO. Joyce will dominate him. I have no idea why FW is making this fight,

They've seen an old out of shape Stiverne easily land right hands on the chin of Joyce so they must think Dubois KO's him. Interesting fight though.
