(I.E. Wilder vs Ortiz). I don't know, but if Ortiz was offered anything north of $3 million, it's just plain stupid.
Joshua vs. Hunter, a mismatch or not ?

Almost like winning the Nobel Peace Prize for winning the lottery!punchoutsb wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 17:59 It’s a pretty unique job when accepting an offer of a career high payday and a chance at your end goal is worthy of applause.![]()

And yet the call was/is answered by so few.punchoutsb wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 17:48 I always thought it was strange to give applause for someone accepting an undeserved best deal of their life. It takes cojones to be a pro fighter; accepting a career high payday and a shot at every fighters ultimate goal takes a single brain cell.
So six, seven fighters get the call, get the chance to step in and step up...
How do you not applaud the guy that goes in there and actually does it?
Because a half dozen guys didn’t. You applaud them?

I generally applaud undeserved gifts around Christmas for my little nephews, but not year round and certainly not for combat athletes. Just because this sport is rife with divas I don’t think it’s necessary to make a hero out of someone doing something that is literally the only reason to do that thing.

You must have one short list of fighters “worthy” of your praise then!punchoutsb wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 19:56 I generally applaud undeserved gifts around Christmas for my little nephews, but not year round and certainly not for combat athletes. And nobody is making a hero out of Hunter yet.

I just get riled sometimes by how entitled some fighters feel. It’s virtually unheard of in any profession to expect praise for accepting a gift of a chance to be the best in your field and a career high pay day.
“Would you like a chance to interview for the position of CEO for the number one company in your field and a onetime check for more money than you’ve made in your entire life just for going to the interview?”
“Sure”
“Wow! That’s totally unexpected and legendary!”

Right. Then we’re more or less in agreement.punchoutsb wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 20:18 I just get riled sometimes by how entitled some fighters feel. It’s virtually unheard of in any profession to expect praise for accepting a gift of a chance to be the best in your field and a career high pay day.

So when a bunch of ceo candidates are making excuses, saying they can’t prep for the interview or the job doesn’t *initially* pay enough, you got to say that the guy that actually shows up is a cut above.
Plus, he’s one little dude.

If it happened frequently outside of boxing then you’d have a point, but it doesn’t. I don’t deny there are divas in boxing, but it still doesn’t necessitate applauding someone’s cajones for simply agreeing to perform the work they are paid to do.Contendeh wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 20:35 Right. Unless you can get paid not to do it...which seems to be endemic on the heavyweight scene.punchoutsb wrote: ↑23 Apr 2019, 20:41 If it happened frequently outside of boxing then you’d have a point, but it doesn’t. Got to reward the ones who do, cause a bunch aren’t.
It’d be different if everyone was clamoring.
Also, Hunter is really a 200lb guy.

LOL! Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't think Pulev's cut would heal in time.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 13:10 Hunter is ranked #20 by Boxrec. How about like everybody above him? How about Pulev?

On top of the cut. His suspension in California would not allow him to obtain a license in New YorkIlya Muromets wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 13:10 Hunter is ranked #20 by Boxrec. How about like everybody above him? How about Pulev?

I didn't know that NYSAC had that in place. Surprised they have it with California. I think I knew they had it with Nevada.tiny_acres wrote: ↑24 Apr 2019, 14:51 Yes I re as this on 2 different forums the provided a link to what essentially called it reciprocating agreement between athletic commissions

Re: Joshua vs. Hunter, a mismatch or not ?
Exactly, totally different pricing. 1,000,000 buys is a huge number here.
Would be interesting to see how many people would buy a ppv in the UK for £70.00.
Or what difference a price of $25.00 would make to the number of buys in the USA
Re: Joshua vs. Hunter, a mismatch or not ?
At $25.00 I'm buying PPV's left and right here in the States. At 79.99 I'm waiting for Wilder/AJ; Spence/Crawford; Loma/Garcia (maybe); etc.
