Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
The Nevada State Athletic Commission approved three consistent, veteran judges Wednesday to score the Canelo Alvarez-Daniel Jacobs fight.
The NSAC unanimously voted at its monthly meeting in Las Vegas in favor of executive director Bob Bennett’s recommendations to assign Connecticut’s Glenn Feldman, Nevada’s Dave Moretti and New Jersey’s Steve Weisfeld as the judges for the Alvarez-Jacobs bout May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Veteran Nevada referee Tony Weeks was approved Wednesday to officiate Alvarez-Jacobs as well.
Feldman, Moretti and Weisfeld also were the judges for the Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin rematch last September.
Moretti and Weisfeld both scored Alvarez a 115-113 winner over Golovkin in their middleweight championship rematch seven months ago. Feldman scored that fight a draw (114-114).

Looking forward to this fight, should be a cracker, Canelo really seems to be coming into his prime, coming off the easiest win of his career against Fielding looked good at the higher weight but lets be honest Fielding allowed him to do as he pleased and Alvarez didn't mess about, devastating body punching, although I thought Alvarez lost the Golovkin rematch too it was definitely an improvement from the 1st fight, he deserved the win last time more than he deserved a draw 1st time IMO
Jacobs in good form since the loss to Golovkin, I thought he won that fight, although he's looked good since I don't know if he's boxed at the same level as he did that night, the Sulecki and Derevyanchenko wins were well deserved but he hasn't had a stoppage in a while
I think if he can produce the level of performance here that he did against Golovkin then he's in with a real chance, he switched effectively against Derevyanchenko and Canelo has struggled with lefties in the past so Jacobs surely will try to outbox Alvarez and not allow him to get close and trapped on the ropes to work the body, as I said though Canelo is coming into his prime and I think after a close first half he will eventually pull away from Jacobs and stop him in the second half
I'll be rooting for Jacobs though

Sadam Ali vs. Anthony Young this Saturday on Canelo-Jacobs card
his Saturday night at The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, welterweight, Anthony “Juice” Young will finally get the chance on the world stage to prove he is among the top fighters in the division when he takes on Sadam Ali (27-2, 14 KO’s) on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez – Daniel Jacobs middleweight unification card live on DAZN.
Young of Atlantic City has been a professional for eight-years as he has compiled a respectable mark of 20-2 with seven knockouts, but Saturday will be his first fight on the world stage and outside of the East Coast when he takes on the the 2008 Olympian and former super welterweight champion.
“Training camp has been good. I just fought om March 23rd ( A 6th round stoppage over Juan Rodriguez Jr), so I just took a couple days off and went right back in the gym. I have had a solid six-week camp for this fight,” said Young.
Young feels that he has been overlooked as this is the 1st major opponent that he has faced in his career.
“All that I have ever wanted was an opportunity. This was presented to us, and we jumped on it. I have fought the bulk of my career at home in Atlantic City. I feel there is more pressure in that. I won’t feel any pressure on Saturday. I just know that after Saturday, the whole boxing world will know who I am.”
A win over the well-known Ali is just what Young has been clamoring for, and the 31 year-old popular Jersey Shore based fighter has had his eye on Ali for a long time.
“I have been following Ali for a long time. My goal was to make the Olympic team, and he got on the team in 2008. He’s a great fighter. He is an Olympian, who defeated a legend in Miguel Cotto to become a world champion. I think he was over-matched in terms of size when they put him in with Munguia. He is a world class fighter, but so am I. Saturday, the world will see that. A win will put me on the world stage, and will show that I am a player in the welterweight division. I want to fight everybody. I just want to thank everyone on my team, and I am dedicating this fight to Leavander Johnson and his father Bill. Leavander was the last Atlantic City fighter to get to this stage and Saturday, I will do everyone proud.”
Long-time manager Rich Masini of Masini Boxing Management has carefully but aggressively moved his welterweight prospect, young for eight- years . “I believe Anthony is more then ready for this fight, and will be victorious. Every fighter dreams of the getting the opportunity to change their lives and career. We have a great team with trainer’s Raul “Chino” Rivas, Reggie Lloyd, Rashiem Jefferson and cutman Nick Rosario. Also Anthony’s dad who has helped me navigate his career. His team has always been a pleasure to work with and his father Teany is a big part of our team. His family is also a big part of our team, and they are great people. They will have a strong showing to support him in Vegas,” says Masini

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Its tough to see Jacobs winning. If the fight is close on the cards we have a history of Canelo being favoured by the judges so no reason to think that won't happen here. There's no reason to think Jacobs can win that clearly on the cards. A lot is made of Jacobs going the distance with GGG but Canelo has more dimensions to his game than GGG. His punching power is probably not too far off GGGs at this point too.
Stamina has been a problem for both of these guys and they both hit very hard so I see a cautious fight. Canelo came into the GGG rematch with a point to prove and whether you think he won the fight or not, he can at least claim a moral victory in terms of outmanning GGG, who had to give ground all night in the face of a fighter coming forward willing to exchange punches. We hadn't seen that kind of disrespect shown to GGGs power before.
As far as this fight goes, I have seen Jacobs hurt one too many times to really feel confident picking him. Id say that if the fight goes the distance and Jacobs has clearly won, the best he can hope for is a draw.
I see Canelo outboxing him and putting it on him and getting him out of there.

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
I'm really hoping Jacobs can do this - not just cos of the drugs things, but because I just feel Alvarez is being a tad over rated (only a tad) when discussing the P4P lists.
A razor close win (in which I thought he lost) against a clearly slowing GGG and all of a sudden he seems to be in most people's top 3 P4P and GGG himself seems to be forgot about.
I think Crawford, Usyk, Lomachenko and Inoue have got to be Universally above Canelo.
Canelo for me is in the bracket that includes the likes of Spence, Mickey Garcia, GGG, Joshua and several of the Asian lighterweight fighters.
For me the highest Saul is P4P currently is #5 - a solid win over Jacobs (no controvesy) closes the gap, but I still don't think he moves ahead of any of the 4 above him as sadly, I feel, Jacobs is on the decline and I expect Saul now to beat him quite comfortably - a year or so back would have been different.

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
With Canelo Alvarez putting the finishing touches on his training camp as he heads into this weekend’s middleweight unification match against Daniel Jacobs, the Mexican star tells the LA Times that he’s been preparing for difficult stylistic fights like these for a long time.
Specifically Canelo recalls his 2013 loss to Floyd Mayweather, saying he knew that fight would prepare him for what was to come regardless of the outcome on that particular night.
“I always wanted to face the best fighters … to cement my path and be able to place myself in the history of boxing,” Alvarez said in a statement to The Times on Monday. “ … The reason I fought against the kind of style that Mayweather [has] is because I was already used to [other] kinds of fighters.
“I also knew that fighting against the best would prepare [me] for challenges like the one I have against Daniel Jacobs.”

Haven't watch a fight from Vegas in years, what are we looking at for ringwalk times? Got an early enough flight on Sunday.

To me, this is the best fight that has been made so far this year. Excellent match that should be highly competitive. But the judges love Canelo and the same judges who gave him a close decision over Golovkin in September are also judging this fight. Canelo by another close decision that some will view as controversial.
Timothy Bradley Jr.
ESPN boxing analyst/former champion
Alvarez by KO
I'm sorry to say this, but I think Canelo wins this one. At the highest level, what separates good fighters from great ones is supreme concentration. [Floyd] Mayweather has it, Andre Ward has it, Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr. included. I love Jacobs but this will be his downfall against Alvarez. Defensive lapses will allow Alvarez to connect. Late stoppage or 12-round decision for Canelo.

Canelo on points controversially.

Alvarez will have a few problems against Jacobs' movements. However, Canelo should be the favorite based on his power, counterattack and better accuracy.

Alvarez by decision
Canelo isn't merely younger than Jacobs, he also has more experience against better opponents. And though his power isn't what it was at 154 or 147, he's become a better boxer than he ever seems to get credit for.
Nick Parkinson
ESPN UK
Jacobs by decision
If Canelo finds a way to attack on the inside, he can break down Jacobs and win by stoppage. But expect Jacobs to use his height and reach advantages, along with his movement, to outbox Canelo from the outside for an upset decision win.

Alvarez by decision
Canelo wins on points, great performance and wins wide.

Alvarez by unanimous decision
A lot depends on whether Jacobs is still as good as he was when he lost a very close decision to Gennady Golovkin in 2017. Jacobs' most recent fight, a split decision over Sergiy Derevyanchenko, wasn't particularly encouraging. Still, I expect Jacobs to give Alvarez a competitive fight, but fall short of victory on the official scorecards.
Steve Kim
ESPN.com
Alvarez by decision
Canelo will have some issues with the size and length of Jacobs but this young man has really developed into a complete, all-around fighter. Canelo will land most of the telling blows, and it's been shown to be very difficult to win a close decision versus Alvarez in Las Vegas. That being said, I do think Canelo has come into his own as an elite fighter. I like him to wear down Jacobs late or win a 12-round decision
Eric Raskin
Showtime Boxing
Alvarez by unanimous decision
Had Jacobs fought Canelo two years ago, it might have been a tougher call. But Alvarez just gets better with every fight. I believe he has sharper defense than Jacobs, knows how to negate disadvantages in length, and works the body well, all of which should carry Alvarez to a less controversial decision than the ones that accompanied his fights against Golovkin.
Joe Cortez
ESPN Deportes
Alvarez by split decision
Jacobs is a well-educated boxer in the ring; GGG had his hands full when they fought two years ago. Alvarez also comes to the ring with lots of power and great boxing skills. I see Canelo winning by a split decision.
Charles Moynihan
ESPN bureau producer
Alvarez by unanimous decision
At a mere 28 years old and with 54 professional bouts, Canelo Alvarez is an ascending fighter. Scary. His jab will be the difference here, creating openings for powerful body shots which will eventually wear down Daniel Jacobs.
Salvador Rodriguez
ESPNdeportes.com
Alvarez by KO11
It is true that Jacobs is one of the most complete opponents Canelo has faced in his career. But Canelo's evolution, what he has shown fight after fight in the last three years, and the mental lapses Jacobs seems to have during fights will open the door for Alvarez to wear down Jacobs and score an 11th-round stoppage.
Claudia Trejos
ESPNdeportes.com
Alvarez by decision
Though Jacobs gave an outstanding performance against GGG, he did slow down in the later rounds. I believe Canelo will be patient and systematically work the body to wear down Jacobs and take the win by decision.
Bernardo Pilatti
ESPNdeportes.com
Alvarez by TKO
Canelo will take advantage of his outstanding physical condition, and his punching power will be enough to knock out Jacobs, who will be weakened by his efforts to make weight and will fade late in the fight, as seen in his last bout.
David Faitelson
ESPN Deportes
Alvarez by unanimous decision
I see a difficult fight for Canelo. The elusive style of Jacobs, his tight guard and his constant mobility surely will create problems for the world champion. At the end, Alvarez will use his better form to fight for 36 minutes and connect the best shots. I see Canelo winning by a close but unanimous decision.
Pablo Viruega
ESPN Deportes
Alvarez by decision
Canelo is a more complete boxer, has better technique, punching power and defense, and has improved on fighting at a distance. You can see his progress with each fight. Jacobs can frustrate and attack Canelo, but that's a tricky proposition when you also have to be aware of Canelo's punches coming your way.

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Hearn says he’ll pay Jacobs’ weight penalty for Canelo fight
IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ promoter Eddie Hearn says he might pay his weight penalty if he comes in over the 170 pound weigh-in limit for the secondary weight check at 8:00 a.m. this Saturday for his unification fight with WBA/WBC middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez. Golden Boy Promotions put in the contract that the two fighters can only gain 10 lbs from 160 lbs to 170 lbs when they rehydrate after they make weight on Friday at the weigh-in.
According to Jacobs, the weight penalty was initially $200,000 per pound, but it’s been reduced to $100,000. So if Hearn is serious about being willing to pay for Jacobs’ weight penalty for the secondary weigh-in, he could be paying anywhere from $100K to as high as $1.5 million, if the rumors are true that Jacobs rehydrated to 185 lbs for his fight against Gennady Golovkin in March 2017.
“The weigh-in will be at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday,” Jacobs’ promoter Eddie Hearn said. “He don’t have to come in at 10 lbs. He can come in over 10 lbs if he wants. It’s still a fight. We’ll see how he feels. There’s penalties. Still, if he doesn’t feel like making it, and he has a bit of change, or I may pay for it. You never know. He won’t lose his [IBF middleweight] belt. He won’t lose the fight,” Hearn said.
The way that Hearn was smiling when he said he would pay for Jacobs’ weight penalty for the secondary weigh-in, it’s unclear if he’s serious about being willing to pay the $100K per pound penalty or if he was just pulling the chains of the boxing media. As big as Jacobs is, it could be a huge penalty if he rehydrates to 180 lbs overnight after making weight on Friday. Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) says he’ll be fighting at at around 174 pounds on Saturday night. That’s the weight that he’s been training at during camp. But even at that weight, the penalty would be $400,000 if Jacobs comes in 4 lbs over the 170 lb weigh-in limit for the secondary weight check at 8 AM this Saturday, May 4th.

Jacobs is going to take a pasting
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Canelo is at his prime now; young, good chin, strong and great (and I mean great) boxing skills.
His KO punch is overrated I believe; it’s influenced more by his now bull-like physique (PED most likely helping here) ... but the kid has faced superb opponents to have honed his boxing skills to where they are now.
The PEDs may have helped his strength & stamina .. but skills are taught not taken.
Jacobs is a top fighter - but Canelo at this stage will just know too much for him; and will get a fairly close but clear win after 12 often boring rounds.

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
don’t like canelo and his two stinking decisions against golovkin...the peds...the cut that didn’t bleed...but at the same time jacobs whining about not being able to massively outweigh his opponent is laughable...he did the same against golovkin coming in huge and ignoring the rules.

Wow. Some funny business here.
Both ‘made’ weight. But they’re NOT telling us what they weighed?
