Re: Abel Sanchez gets the Boot
It isn’t standard for the trainers of superstars to get 10% not even close to that, let’s say a purse is $20m does anyone believe that a trainer should get $2 mil? That’s just fcuking nuts for telling someone what to do in a gym for 12 weeks.
Re: Abel Sanchez gets the Boot
I'm not privy to the inside scoop or anything, but I don't fault Golovkin for doing this. I'm sure he had his reasons. I would hope he takes the high road, and doesn't slander Abel in the press the way Abel has felt the need to do with him. Being the better man, and staying away from that kinda crap is usually the way to go in a situation like that.

I'm pretty sure Roger didn't make 40 million for Floyd/McGregor.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 16:50 It isn’t standard for the trainers of superstars to get 10% not even close to that, let’s say a purse is $20m does anyone believe that a trainer should get $2 mil? Re: Abel Sanchez gets the Boot
Sanchez was lucky GGG picked him , with his ameteur record he could of gone to ANYtrainer in the world , sure they have success together , but GGG put Sanchez on the map made him a celebrity trainer and paid him 10% of his purses , Obviously with the big deal in place GGG takes the punches why would he want to pay more , than he's been paying , after all theres been no great masterplan to keep him winning

All big time trainers of multi million dollar fighters are paid a flat fee.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 16:59 I'm pretty sure Roger didn't make 40 million for Floyd/McGregor.![]()
Remember Oscar turning down Floyd Sr. Because he wanted 1 million for the fight.

Do you honestly believe that Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia refuse to pay their trainers the 10% industry standard?tiny_acres wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 18:31 All big time trainers of multi million dollar fighters are paid a flat fee.

Are they making Canelo, GGG Joshua Mayweather Oscar money?Enlightened-One wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 18:43 Do you honestly believe that Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia refuse to pay their trainers the 10% industry standard?
That's my point. The biggest earners don't pay 10%

Do you honestly believe Roger made 40 million for Floyd to fight a novice? Then again, you believe canelo only fought once last year, so nobody takes you seriously.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 18:43 Do you honestly believe that Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia refuse to pay their trainers the 10% industry standard?

You claimed that all “trainers of multi-million dollar fighters are paid a flat fee”, but that’s too much of a sweeping statement for my liking. It simply can't be true.tiny_acres wrote: ↑25 Apr 2019, 18:58 Are they making Canelo, GGG Joshua Mayweather Oscar money?

Do you honestly believe that Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia, whom both command multi-million sums per bout, refuse to pay their trainers the customary 10% industry standard?
Look, I understand the assumption you’ve made, and it doesn’t sound unreasonable, but the point I’m making is that there is an industry-standard 10% trainer fee that nearly all fighters pay their trainers.
However, we don’t really know what the trainers of the worlds’ biggest earning fighters command per bout, because that information is almost never disclosed.
I strongly suspect that trainers who have been with their fighters for years (from the very start of their careers) such as Virgil Hunter with Andre Ward, Robert Garcia with Mikey Garcia, Derrick James with Errol Spence Jr. and Kenny Porter with Shawn Porter, then they will/would have usually all earned roughly 10% per bout.
When a trainer initially links up with an established fighter, already commanding huge sums, then it’s likely they’ll only receive a flat fee.
Trainers usually end up being unfairly treated, because when a fighter loses a fight, they often take the blame and will lose their jobs immediately.
And when a fighter becomes established and starts earning mega-bucks, then the trainer will usually lose their job anyway, because the boxers they train want to keep all the money they’ve earned for themselves, whilst conveniently forgetting that they wouldn’t be commanded such huge sums in the first place without receiving guidance from the very individuals they’ve fired.

I've been waiting for you to prove canelo fought once last year or admit that you lied. Please refer to my previous response.
Re: Abel Sanchez gets the Boot
Lot of venom here against GGG.
Sanchez has made fortune with GGG already. Now he got greedy and wanted even more dollars.
Like the more well informed people here have already stated... 10% is not the usual cut when the fighter has been making millions constantly.

Trainers who have been with their fighters for years (from the very start or during the early stages of their careers) such as Virgil Hunter with Andre Ward, Robert Garcia with Mikey Garcia, Derrick James with Errol Spence Jr. and Kenny Porter with Shawn Porter, then they will usually command roughly the industry-strandard 10% per bout trainer fee.
When a trainer initially links up with an established fighter, already commanding huge sums, then it’s likely they’ll only receive a flat fee.
This is the common explanation provided by boxing insiders.
Abel Sanchez has been with Golovkin for eight or nine years and has received the customary 10% trainer fee per bout during their time working together.
Now that GGG has signed a nine-digit deal with DAZN, Gennady allegedly wanted Sanchez to reduce his fees to 2%, which has resulted in their split.
Can anyone really say for certain that Abel Sanchez didn’t help GGG achieve his sporting goals and gain financial success?
Is it wrong for Sanchez to feel that he’s entitled to a slice of the cake he helped bake or does he only deserve to receive a few crumbs?
Re: Abel Sanchez gets the Boot
Well if he kept getting the 10% he would probably be the best paid trainer in the whole sport.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑26 Apr 2019, 03:35 Trainers who have been with their fighters for years (from the very start or during the early stages of their careers) such as Virgil Hunter with Andre Ward, Robert Garcia with Mikey Garcia, Derrick James with Errol Spence Jr. and Kenny Porter with Shawn Porter, then they will usually command roughly the industry-strandard 10% per bout trainer fee.

Also those "few crumbs" are more than what I make in ten years

Re: Abel Sanchez gets the Boot
I get what you mean, but everything is relative isn’t it?
We keep hearing boxers refer to importance that their team play in the success they achieve in the sport, but as soon as these fighters start earning big money, when their paydays rise significantly, they don’t want to reward their key employees accordingly.
Nine years or so ago, when GGG’s purses were tiny, Sanchez would have only received a trivial amount, since his trainer fees were only 10% per bout – no matter how small the payday.
I guess that’s the reason why British boxing promoter Micky Duff once said: “If you want loyalty in boxing get a dog.”
